Flaccianello della Pieve Colli Toscana Centrale Sangiovese 2016

Needed a full 2 hr decant from dbl Mag but boy-oh-boy was this awesome. Sour cherry and iodine, saddle leather on the nose, classic Sangiovese palate turned smooth as silk. Many years to go but 🔥🔥🔥 right now. — 10 days ago

Produttori del Barbaresco

Langhe Nebbiolo 2022

Popped and poured; enjoyed over a couple of hours. The 2022 pours a garnet color with a transparent core. Medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is youthful with notes of pomegranate, cranberry, strawberry and raspberry compote, red flowers, and gravely minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium and just a touch hot. Not the most memorable Langhe Nebbiolo from Produttori in the last decade or so but it’s totally authentic and still a great value. Drink now and over the next 5-10 years. — 13 days ago

Marchesi Antinori

Tignanello Toscana Super Tuscan Blend 2016

Nice but not quite at the true top level, especially given the price. Decanted 4 hours which is necessary at this point. Nice pairing with a big T-bone steak cooked in the Tuscan style. Could use more acid on the finish. Probably needs a few years to come together. — 7 days ago

Tenuta San Guido

Guidalberto Toscana Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2020

On nose its floral, dried tobacco, earthy, white pepper and creamy as well.

On palate, its blackberries, plums, wine is full bodied, medium+ acidity, tannic, too young but shows quality from concentration and intensity. 50% Merlot and 50% Carbenet Sauvignon

Pio Cesare

Barolo Nebbiolo 2010

2010 a strong vintage & still accending. Costco Ribcap vs Allen Brothers.

Sofia & I stayed in downtown Alba in 2015. Arrived early evening & sadly after their big wine festival. Pio Cesare was around the corner and down two blocks from our hotel. Historic as hell.

I bought this at Costco for around $49.

Nebbiolo young is a huge tarry grape. The Italian’s ferment this with a lot of new wood. They actually hold Nebbiolo/Barolo in bottle and extra year or more before release. Also, longer than most other world regions based largely on the grape & even more their wood use.

This is drinking nicely after a four hour decant, but it is still ascending and another 10-15 years of good drinking ahead…properly stored.

Even with this age, its tarriness is the first descriptor. Followed by heated dark spices, slightly, dry b lackberries, dry, slight tart, dark cherries, black raspberries, black plum, some strawberries, tea leaves, black licorice to anise, sandstone, limestone, dry crushed rocks, dry top soil & brush, dry herbs, dry tobacco, light; clove, nutmeg & hints of vanillin, forest floor w/ dry leaves, some mint, dry, withering, dark, red flowers framed in violets, excellent acidity with a nicely evolved, well; structured, tensioned, balanced, smartly polished finished that goes on & on!

Marchesi Antinori

Villa Antinori Toscana Sangiovese Blend 2020

Another solid vintage of this consistent Tuscan Red. Blend of primary Sangiovese with some Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blended in. Medium ruby red color. Aromas of red and black berry/currant fruit with hints of coffee and meat. The palate shows plum, cherry and strawberry fruit flavors with additional notes of tobacco, menthol, iron and spices. Very earthy and crisp finish that includes a touch of vanilla. Nice complexity and balance. Great Lead-off wine, Keith S! — 20 days ago

Tenuta San Guido

Bolgheri Sassicaia Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc 2007

Finally had my a-ha moment with this wine (after opening a 16 too early). 07 was just beautiful - kept growing in stature over the 3 hour meal. Drank in Venice to celebrate our anniversary. — 6 days ago
