Turriga Isola dei Nuraghi Red Blend 2016

Okay folks!!!! Here it is. Finally a wine that makes me go WOW!! 2016 Argiolas Turriga isola dei nuraghi blend. Italy has proven to me that they have skills! Of course, I’ve always known this. I’ve never found a great Italian wine that I have loved until now. This wine has something so different about it from the beginning. The bouquet I am having trouble defining, but I think it’s Passionfruit and licorice. The palate is immediately exploded with dark cherry, elderberry, and leather.. The earth tones are fantastic. Absolutely no bitter taste at all. Buttery on the texture. Mild spice. Graphite. Fantastic buttery and velvety finish. Very dry. This wine is almost 4 dimensional. OMG, give me more!!!!!! — a day ago

Piero Mancini

Cannonau di Sardegna DOC Cannonau

N: dried cherries, warm bricks, mixed herbs, and a smidge of tomato paste
P: + sour cherries, as well a black, raspberry, but overall impression is savory. Lots of acidity. Good balance of fruit, acidity, and minerality. Yum!

Dolia Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva

Enjoying this a lot. And the price… enjoying it even more. Opened it yesterday and it wasn’t ready so we let it sit for 24 hours. Still don’t think it’s quite there - probably needs another two years minimum. Didnt expect that. Dark purple and light red tones. Pipe tobacco and dark fruit notes on the nose, a bit of dried cherry and rose petals. Lots of depth there, very nice gothic bouquet. :-) There’s beef steak blood and graphite mixed with dark cherry and plum. Going to buy a case! — 18 days ago

Agricola Punica

Montessu Isola dei Nuraghi Carignane 2019

Carignan based red blend (also has small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Franc). Deep ruby in color. Intense black fruit aromas and flavors. Notes of fresh herbs, purple flowers and Forrest Floor. Touch of saline on the finish. Full bodied with a velvety texture. Nicely balanced acidity and medium tannins. Beautifully rustic! Thanks for bringing this one, Petey! — 6 days ago

Lintóri Vermentino de Sardegna

Entry-level wine from Capichera, superb example of this DOC. A bit pricey for this tier, but you won’t find a finer expression of basic quality from this side of the island. Textured, precise and way too easy to drink. — 9 days ago

Cannonau di Sardegna 2017

Chalk meets raspberry without the cough syrup grittiness you usually get with that combo. It’s smooth with light tannins, yet still grips the side of the tongue with old leather and green apple skin. Nice and complex and lasting for such an inexpensive bottle. — 4 days ago

Berteru Cannonau di Sardegna 2016

Tangy and sour on pop but settled down with air. Sardinia makes magic for pennies. — 20 days ago

Duemilaventi Costamolino Vermentino di Sardegna 2020

Overall quality is fine and dandy, super fresh with slight frizzante texture on the palette.

Not sure if its the super freshness or wine making direction, but, not a fan of the excessive acidity and grassy notes in the direction of Sauv Blanc. Grabbed as cooking wine (and chef sippy) so not too concerned, but had I purchased for dinner its not what I expect nor want. I love Sardinia sandy fennel notes, hate NZ Grassy.

Vigna'ngena Vermentino Di Gallura 2020

A superbly-crafted multi-layered Vermentino with great intensity and striking character. Slightly bracing stone fruit, balanced by a second layer of subtle tropical notes and followed by very herbaceous finish. Mint, ginger and white pepper linger very persistently. Great tension of firm minerality and rounded mid palate. This is just about the finest expression of Vermentino I’ve had. Not the greatest value at $40, so I reserve my recommendations for serious lovers of this variety and of more esoteric Mediterranean whites. — 9 days ago
