Ruta 22

Booker Vineyard

Ripper 22 Red Blend 2016

Ruby in color with a wide reddish/brick rim.

Beautiful nose of cherries, sweet strawberries, blueberries, black plums, cedar, licorice, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, earth, light vegetables, coffee, eucalyptus and Mediterranean spices.

Full bodied and smooth with medium plus acidity.

Dry and very fruity on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, oak, light vanilla, spices, tobacco, alcohol, peppercorn, espresso, chocolates, earth, light vegetables and pencil lead.

Long finish with fine grained tannins, cherries and red chili pepper.

This is a gorgeous Grenache from Paso Robles. Spicy and rich. Fruit forward and opulent. Just delicious.

Great right out of the bottle, and gets more complexity after 2 hours of airtime.

This 6 year old is showing great complexity now, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years.

100% Grenache grapes were aged in French Oak barrels for 22 months.

14.9% alcohol by volume.

94 points.

Château Rollan de By

Cru Bourgeois Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

A delicious left bank Bordeaux which greatly beneifted from a 60+ minute decant. The nose presents fig jam & blueberry along with notes of anise, cocoa, and pencil lead.  The palate is impressively well balanced with flavors of blueberry and blackberry along with tertiary notes of sage & leather along with well integrated tannins and a bright acidity. Paired equally well with both filet mignon on day 1 & burgers on day 2! ($33) [5/27/22] — 4 months ago

Château Calon-Ségur

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2001

‘01 is drinking beautiful in ‘22. Primo. 21 years old is drinking age, how about that?

This wine has aged beautifully and remains strong. Dense and rich, but soft and supple. I’m leaning heavily into the current and jammy notes that remain, but the obvious flavors are the old leather, tobacco, and sage.

Color comes out dark ruby red, but after about an hour in the glass you can see the oxygen taking hold. No decanting required. Glad I bought two of these!

Château Fleur Cardinale

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

Paired with Lamb cavatelli 👌 2018 vintage on 10/'22. Decanted 1.5 hours.

Nose: spearmint, leather, oak, earthy with subtle vanilla notes.
Palate: medium plus acidity, likely from the Merlot. Medium tannins, nicely integrated. Black currants, tobacco, cacao, dried fig, bell pepper with a nice Long finish.

Bodega Iturrialde

G 22 Gorka Izagirre Bizkaiko Txakolina 2020

Floral & fresh, crisp.
Orange blossom, wet salty beach pebbles, not overly complex on the nose, but very fresh.
The palate shows more. Nice mouthfeel, a bit rich yet bright & juicy. Salty lemons galore. This is so drinkable and food friendly. Really nice.

Les Olivets Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2012

We had the 2012 Vintage on 7/7-8/22. This is a terrific CndP. Full bodied and fruit forward and well balanced. The bouquet boasts black fruit and white pepper. Blackberry, plum, cassis, cocoa and even minerality were on the palate. — 3 months ago

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

2014 vintage. Already rocking and a-rolling splishing and a-splashing. No one does silk and gossamer elegance better. Only getting better in the near term and far beyond. 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 7% Cab Franc and 6% Petite Verdot. Always a top fave. — 5 months ago
