McKahn Family Cellars

Russian River Valley Viognier 2021

McKahn Family Cellars has a real gem with this Viognier, 2021. With a very nice low profile, grapefruit and lemon bouquet, this beautiful white wine tantalizes the tongue with Licorice and grapefruit. There is also a hint of green Apple in there. There is an oaky finish with a lingering tartness that drives you to take another sip. I’m not a real big white wine drinker, but for the hot summertime, this chilled on ice is a fantastic wine I highly recommend. — 4 days ago

MacRostie Winery & Vineyards

Pinot Noir Rosé 2021

Beautiful color of light pink with a peachy hue.

On the nose raspberries, sweet strawberries, limes, grapefruits, spices, light herbs and light sea salt.

Medium bodied with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with strawberries, green apples, grapefruits, herbs, spices, earth, light vegetables and black pepper.

Tangy finish with spices and bitter almonds.

This is an easy drinking Rosé from Sonoma Coast. A nice summer wine.

Fruity on the nose and earthier on the palate. Light and engaging. Crisp and refreshing.

Feels like a French Rosé with a touch of new world.

Better after 20 minutes of airtime, and will pair nicely with food. I had it all by itself by the beach.

13.3% alcohol by volume.

89 points.

$30.

Cape Mentelle

Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

The first of 4 bottles from my cellar. The nose has blackberry, violets and dried herbs. The palate has that trademark Margaret River herbaceousness but in this warmer vintage more cassis, fine persistent tannins which go on forever - almost silky. Just a beautiful rendition of Margaret River Cabernet with a very long life in front of it - say 20 years. Cape Mentelle one of the early vineyards and down in the south near the town. — 7 days ago

Leeuwin Estate

Art Series Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

A cooler expression of cabernet is the usual Margaret River way and this shows all of the minty capsicum it can in balance with currants and red cherry fruit. Barely a trace of oak. Med+ tannin, med/med+ acids add a nice juicy mouthwatering med+ finish. — 3 days ago

Felton Road

Bannockburn Pinot Noir 2019

Aromatic notes of red fruits and red florals, dried herbs and whole bunch influences. Not as typically Otago as I was expecting - more restrained and less full bodied as you normally expect from this part of the world. I had written previously on Otago as being a “Shiraz drinkers Pinot” but this certainly wasn’t. The following day still those red cherry aromatics and a little pepper. Not overly complex, a little young, but very pleasant. Next in a year or so. — 6 days ago

Ridge Vineyards

Mancini Ranch Carignane Zinfandel 2019

Absolutely delicious. The 27% Zin makes itself noticed on the nose, which has the telltale brambly blackberry competing with the deep red berries of the Carignane. And there’s a bit of the signature Ridge American oak adding a vanilla/smoky note on top of a little gravel. Texturally soft and mouthfilling, it’s ripe but in beautiful balance. Tangy acids from the Carignane. A bit of tannin, but it’s very soft. I don’t see this as a long ager, but really nice now. The finish is a little short, but that’s common in my view with Carignane, which tend to give a significant initial whack of flavor and then dissipates quickly. — 11 days ago

Joseph Swan Vineyards

Trenton Station Russian River Valley Syrah 2011

Stopped by Joseph Swan for a quick tasting flight this afternoon, this wasn’t on the flight but since the 2013 Syrah was so fabulous, picked up a bottle of the 2011 to pair with some great cheese we bought, this shows inky color, mostly black fruits, complexity yet still so very young, medium-long finish, 11 years old going on 3, needs more aging!! — 17 days ago
