Cuvée Prestige Brut Champagne Blend

This bottle was provided by a friend at a recent outdoor social gathering. A very unusual blend of 40% Pinot Blanc, 35% Pinot Noir, 5% Pinot Meunier and 10% Chardonnay. In fact, I can’t recall ever having a champagne that was blended with more than three of the seven permissible varieties. I wish I had more time to spend with this wine but the setting wasn’t very conducive to a thorough analysis. That being said, I took some brief notes. Popped and poured; consumed under an hour. A pleasant mix of pear, lemon, citrus blossom with chalky minerals. The finish was round and quite saline…and rather delightful! Almost quaffable. This wine had a texture that sort of played with my ability to accurately judge the acidity but I settled on medium+…but I think the acid is pretty sneaky. The finish was long and satisfying. Probably my favorite bottle from Philipe Fontaine to date. No disgorgment date stated on the label. — 9 days ago

Nice. Look for Perseval-Farge, they have a bottle (Les Goulats) that includes a majority of the odd varietals (Arbanne, Petit Meslier, Fromenteau aka Pinot Blanc/Gris).

@Severn Goodwin interesting. I’ll keep an eye out. I recently read that Duval-Leroy has been periodically releasing a 100% Petit Meslier since 1998. Not sure any of it makes it to the States.

The blood of the land. Or rose made by bleeding tanks destined for red wine production?
Intense pink w a distinct blueish cast. All cucurbit w melon and cucumber, rose hips and plenty of red fruit aromas. The texture here is the outstanding partner it is penetrating, cutting rich foods, but also has a generous, viscous, silky feeling.

Millésime Brut Balnot-Sur-Laignes Pinot Noir 2012

Popped and poured; no formal notes. Star-bright, straw color. Loads of brioche with pears, raspberries and marzipan. Good balance of fruit and acid. More interesting than the “Tradition” IMO. 100% Pinot Noir. No disgorgement data. — 24 days ago

An all time fave for summer sipping with a slight chill yet able to stand up to serious cuisine. Jura funk and strawberry, with the red fruit particularly pronounced in this warm vintage — a month ago

Tradition Brut Champagne Pinot Noir Pinot Meunier

From a half-bottle and, unfortunately, served in flutes. This is technically a Blanc de Noirs with 70% Pinot Noir and the balance Pinot Meunier. A fresh breeze of a wine. On the nose there are apples, pink flowers, wet stone, and lemon. On the palate, ripe apples, golden raspberries, brioche and minerals. Medium acid. A bit more on the round side of the spectrum. I wish the acid was a bit higher…but that’s personal preference. No disgorgement data on the bottle. — a month ago
