Exactly what I hoped for: generous, sensuous, brimming with Classic Zin character, this has many years to go, but still delivers now. — 2 months ago

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1998

Double decant and pour(some fine/cloudy sediment). A brooding still dark garnet with some bricking. On the nose: beautiful older cabernet perfumed notes of dried cherry, green pepper, mint, nutmeg, herbaceous..keep coming back to that nose. Taste: creamy, silky, smooth, juicy wine with a little dried plum, baking spice, tobacco, dark chocolate, cedar and medium finish. Sure, not a great year, but its still hanging in there and a treat to drink tonight. YUM! — 5 months ago

@ESF Thanks, good to know about your experience. If you make quality wine don't always need to worry about it being a maligned rainy/cool vintage. Cheers!

Mt. Veeder Merlot 2014

2014 vintage. Decanted and tasted after 1.5 hrs. Biggie mountain merlot with enuff tannins to lay single-home foundations. Dry and durty "food wine." Talk about needing a two decade time out. Restores my faith in Napa merlot. 9.23.23. — 2 months ago

Monte Rosso Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

1 hour decant(little fine/cloudy sediment). A breathtaking dark magenta color. On the nose: jumping from the glass are stewed cherries/plum, herbaceous, licorice, roasted meat, earth, touch of menthol. Taste: elegant, juicy, velvety wine with dark cherry, pepper, chocolate, cedar, and a anise/tobacco medium plus finish. From the Sonoma side of the Mayacamas mtns. Purchased on a recent visit...beautiful indoor/outdoor tasting room featuring their small production wines. If you want to throw down some serious change they offer a terrific multi course food and wine pairing in the underground cellar. — 3 months ago

Mt. Veeder Sauvignon Blanc 2022

Delicious and crisp, though it could def benefit from some time to take the edge off its sharp acidity. Prominent nose of lemon, lime rind, and even a little grapefruit, with just the tiniest hint of pastry like and mineral notes. Light bodied, with very light yellow/green color and a pleasant palate, with strong yellow/green citrus, and a lingering flavor of fresh lime, slight salinity, and an almost vegetal freshness to the finish. This shines as what sav blanc is capable of. — 5 months ago

Napa Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 1970

Served blind alongside what was later to be revealed as the 1970 Montrose. Our humble table was universally convinced the other wine was from Bordeaux and there was at least one that was adamant this was the legendary 1970 Mayacamas. What wasn’t up for debate was the nose, which was absolutely stunning. A melange of ripe, dried and desiccated dark and red fruits with dried flowers, leather, sweet tobacco and the prettiest baking spices your nose ever smelled on a Cabernet from California. It was almost Burgundian relative to the Montrose. This is a vinous wine with acid keeping it spry. And while it is likely to give “Ohhs and Ahhs” for years to come, it is so gorgeous right now that I wouldn’t hesitate to pull the cork and taste one of the most important wines in history while it still has its potency. This will be one of those wines that haunt me for years to come and I’m ever so grateful to have enjoyed it. A sublime pairing with Iberico de Bellota pork loin with harissa purée and ramps. — 5 months ago
