Art Series Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Blackcurrant/blackcurrant leaves, herbs, licorice root, oaky vanilla. Sinewy tannins that could use a little more time. Handles the ribeye with ease. Tough on a 90 degree night of grilling. — a month ago

Margaret River Chardonnay 2014

Pale Lemon in colour. More in the lean style for Margaret River as compared to the richer “peaches and cream “ style of Cuvées like Leeuwin Art Series and Pierro. The oak has been judiciously dialled back not to overwhelm the more delicate fruit profile of citrus and grapefruit. Finished off with crisp acid. Would have liked a riper fruit profile from this good vintage. Perhaps picking a little later? — a month ago

How nice it is to move away from domestic wines, and relearn that there are equally outstanding examples on other continents - let me introduce you to exhibit A.
This is an Aussie benchmark displaying grapefruit, lemon and a hint of lanolin. Palate is squeaky clean, with a razor-sharp, flinty edge. Finishes long, with tension and weight. Kissed with light oak treatment, and pristine white fruits, this will run well beyond another 15 years. Brilliant.

Art Series Margaret River Shiraz 2012

Smokey, anise, eucalyptus, and blueberry cream. Acid over tannin with almost underripe blueberry. Elegant. Reminiscent of a well made Croze Hermitage with great length and purity of fruit. Well done. Drink now. — 2 months ago

Les Perrières Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 2015

Pale to mid Lemon in colour. Smells like it could be lean - Lemons and white flowers but it’s quite fulsome on the palate with white peach and a saline touch. I have to agree with Tanzer’s note with aromas of citrus peel and wet stone. Sometimes I have a high quality Australian Chardonnay like Leeuwin Art Series, Bindi Quartz or Penfolds Yattarna and wonder why I would bother with a more expensive Premier Cru white Burgundy. Once I tasted this I could see where that extra $100 went. — 23 days ago
