Richebourg Pinot Noir 1978

I contributed this bottle, which had a seepage problem earlier in its life leaving a ~5.5cm ullage. Decanted and left to aerate and hour before heading to the shindig. Amber tawny color, translucent. A Wow! Nose from the get go. Bing cherry, framboise raspberries, rhubarb, rose petals, sweet red cherries. Exotic nose leads to a luscious experience as the wine is tasted. Sois bois. The wine peacocks over several hours of enjoyment. Great juice. — 12 days ago

Les Suchots Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2011

Drank over two days. Closed up to start and also very loyal to this producer’s style who picks very late. Powerful bodied and extracted but opens up with dark fruit, some spices, structure and powerful tannins that start to soften up. A nice bottle, but now very expensive for what it delivers and a style I now appreciate less and less. 89-90

I miss the tastings with this semi-confinement we are still in and stole the idea of @Benoit Duhamel here, so we made one at home with my son and my wife who are both wine fanatics as I am too. We chose 6 red Burgundies Villages, 3 Côtes de Beaune and 3 Côte de Nuits and we tasted these blind, each of us giving ranks and points for each wines. Tasting blind usually doesn’t lie and it can bring numerous surprises which it did in that case. All wines were fo a good level here, no bad wines and all were fun and good indiviually but the results were pretty clear cut in terms of the Côte de Beaune winning this battle.

1- Chassagne-Montrachet villages 2017 Jean-Claude Ramonet 32 pts
2- Volnay Vieilles Vignes 2017, Henri DeLaGrange 28 pts
3- Auxey-Duresses Très Vieilles Vignes 2017, Alain Gras 26 pts
4- Chambolle-Musigny Les Véroilles 2017, Bruno Clair 20 pts
5- Gevrey-Chambertin 2017, Lucien Boillot 12 pts
6- Gevrey-Chambertin 2017 Les Évocelles, Louis Boillot 8 pts

The Veroilles: muted nose that opens eventually on red fruits, strawberries, a touch spicy and slight oak. The wine has energy, freshness and is easy to drink with good structure but a length that is average at best for that level of wine. My no 4 but in a close group within the first four.

1- Chassagne-Montrachet villages 2017 Jean-Claude Ramonet 32 pts
2- Volnay Vieilles Vignes 2017, Henri DeLaGrange 28 pts
3- Auxey-Duresses Très Vieilles Vignes 2017, Alain Gras 26 pts
4- Chambolle-Musigny Les Véroilles 2017, Bruno Clair 20 pts
5- Gevrey-Chambertin 2017, Lucien Boillot 12 pts

Cuvée Vieilles Vignes Musigny Grand Cru Pinot Noir 1990

Tasted blind. Reddish tawny. Nose is closed and not yielding much. I get cranberries, some cherries, iron and stones, some wood. Has a high pitched character to it. Has some pucker in it yet. Tight with ample acidity. I guess 97 Vogue Bonnes Mares. In my experience this wine has had some variations in its performance. Today it was better than most, but suffered by not getting ample air before it was served. — 12 days ago

Les Chaignots Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2002

Lights out bottle from MG, one of my top 3 favorite producers. To no surprise 2002 is so open and giving and its aromatics could seduce you across the room. It’s very Vosne Romanée like as it shows a beautiful spice character and superior combination of power and elegance. There’s red currants, roasted herbs, sous bois and lovely integrated toasty oak. Finishes with fantastic length, depth and soft tannins. A stunner, and Chef Thomas Keller approved 😇 — 7 days ago

Domaine Gagey Les Boudots Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2005

🏅 Rating 92/100 (4,2⭐)

🍷Firm and full-bodied wine. Jammy sweet red strawberries. Rich on the palate with good presence of fruit. LJ style is showing with noticeable oak. Red grapefruit on the back of the palate and a long finish. This wine is shining at the moment. Deep and concentrated with perfect balance between the big robust and the elegant styles. Altogether justifies its 1er cru status. ⁣

5-star vintage of 2005 requires lots of patience for many top Burgundy, but this one has already opened its drinking window.⁣

📍Les Boudots covers 6.3 ha and sits on the East facing mid-slope in the Northern part of NSG and borders famous Vosne 1er Cru of Malconsorts. The soil is brown limestone and marl. ⁣

This wine is fermented in vats for 3-4 weeks and then aged 15 months in oak prior to bottling.⁣

Louis Jadot hold a long term contract over a parcel of half a hectare owned by the Gagey family. Domaine Gagey has belonged to André Gagey’s family for generations and have had a close association with Louis Jadot for many years.⁣

Clos de la Maréchale Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2012

Dark fruit with just a hint of oak with spices, and coca cola slightly. The wine is powerful, acidity is there and the ripe dark red fruit adds freshness to that full palate. The finish that is delicious, has a rustic side and some grip reminiscent of a good Nuits St-Georges. Despite that, a wine I really like in this vintage that has not yet convinced me. 90-91
