Tonight we opted for a wine from one of our favorite Rioja producers -- López de Heredia. 👌👌@lopezdeherediaoficial
This is the "Viña Cubillo" Crianza Rioja. Vintage 2012. ABV 13.5%. It hails from La Rioja Alta region within the Rioja DOCa region of Spain. It is a blend of 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha (Grenache), 5% Graciano, and 5% Mazuelo. 🇪🇸
From the first sniff and sip, it’s no wonder this wine gets such great ratings. 👏👏👏It offers primary notes of ripe red fruit, such as cherry, red currant, fig, also dried rose, mint, and licorice; it offers secondary notes of cedar, nutmeg, vanilla, coconut, cardamom, and tertiary notes of mushroom and wet moss.😋😋
As a Crianza from Rioja, this wine must have aged a minimum of 2 years, one of which must be in oak barrels, prior to release. The time on oak is evident, but these influences don’t overpower the ripe red primary fruit character. The wine is lovely and ever-so-drinkable. 😍😍

In 1879, 2 brothers decided to set up a wine business, C.V.N.E., Compañía Vinicola del Norte de España (Northern Spanish Wine Company) or la Cuné, as it is commonly known in Haro, was created and still kept in traditional neighborhood of Haro station today. Deep Ruby with ripe berry aromas and complex spices, 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano, 5% Mazuelo. On the palate blackberry, cherry and sweet currant with herb, leather and pepper spice. Fine tannins, well balanced good depth and structure on a long finish. — 2 years ago
Rich vanilla nose with ripe blackberries and almost raisin notes that also come through on the palate. Smooth with balanced acid and tannins. Happily sipped alone. Oaked vs Unoaked Rioja tasting - the oaked one. #spain #wanderlust2022 — 5 months ago
A classic Rioja, mostly Tempranillo (85%) with some Graciano (10%) and Mazuelo (5%) from the estate’s vineyards in Laserna, in the Rioja Alavesa subzone. Aged for 2 years in American and French oak barrels. Very attractive, expressive nose with aromas of ripe strawberry, dark fruit, forest floor, oak and some vanilla. Smooth, fine grained tannins. Great acidity. Surprisingly good for 2017, a terrible year in Rioja — 8 months ago
2017 Claire’s. 65% Mourvèdre, 25 % Graciano, & 10% Petit Verdot. Some dark dried fruits on the nose but palate is woke with brighter and fresher red and black fruits. Peppercorn, saddle leather, coffee, chocolate also along for the ride. Interesting and very nice. — 2 years ago
100% Graciano aka Muristellu aka Bovale Sardo. Immediately recognizable nose when opened with perfume of floral and cherry. On the palate it has nice fruit boysenberry, cranberry, and red cherry. Lively acidity, but still full bodied. Earthy & spice on the finish with a hint of vanilla. — 3 years ago

Even though it was 14 years old, I should have let it open more. Changed a lot over an hour—for the better. The end of the bottle was strawberry laffy taffy. Started with a simple wine of cherries and strawberries. Added depth, oak, leather, and more as time went on. — 17 days ago
