Domaine A

Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

An excellent aged Cabernet to go with a Scotch Fillet at the local pub in Sorrento on Boxing Day night. Domaine A is living proof that Tasmania does get enough sunshine to ripen Cabernet Sauvignon. All the classic Cabernet descriptors - Cassis Tomato bush, and Tobacco leaf to the fore here. Medium weight with resolving tannins. — 4 months ago

Henry of Pelham Family Estate

Niagara Peninsula VQA Baco Noir 2018

A really pretty dark garnet color in the glass, almost impenetrable. The nose is very interesting and lovely, especially as time passes. Black and red cherries with some soft vanilla. There’s a bit of coffee and cigar smoke. On day two, chocolate and floral notes come to the fore. Earthy and fruity in equal measure.

This starts off as a very well balanced, quite nice wine but becomes so much more if you can let it grow into itself a little bit. Full bodied but not clunky. Smooth with vibrant energy. Soft tannins and nicely dry. On the palate you’ll find tobacco and chocolate with dark fruits. A nice streak of spice brings us on home to the long finish. This is no novelty, it’s just good wine.

Canard-Duchêne

Charles VII Grande Cuvée des Lys Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne

A pale gold hue leads to some nice effervescence and tons of small bubbles initially. A fine mousse and highly aromatic on the nose with an abundance of wet stone minerality and fresh pears. The fruit is ripe and expressive with citrus aromas being dominant with the more autolytic notes serving as backup. After some time and air, that nice yeast and floral aspects come to the fore in the form of delicate little white flowers.

100% Chardonnay with 7 g/l that only adds a little softness to the acidity of the champagne. With 30% of the blend coming from reserve wines there is a distinct elegance and refinement happening here. The fruit comes from Grand and Premier Crus from Avize and Cramant.

This is most certainly a pop and pour champagne, it’s ready to go. A silky mouthfeel with crisp acidity which leads to crisp fruit on the palate. Baked apple pie, brioche buns, and mandarin oranges shine. Decidedly lush and fun. Fruity, elegant, and versatile.

Viña Robles

Fore Paso Robles Petite Sirah

although it threw a alot of sediment the wine is very enjoyable. Somewhat on the subdued side and not over the top while showing a fair amount of black and blue berry flavors. Very little tannin. — 10 months ago

Château de France

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

Classic French Bordeaux, subtle nose of red fruit. Subtle red fruit on the fore palate with smooth long bone dry on the finish. Does not over power the food. Drinking a Napa cab at the same meal for comparison. (Grilled steak, tater tots, asparagus/ snow pea blend. First dinner in the lanai 2023, wonderful!!) — a year ago

Château Cos d'Estournel

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 1985

This took seven hours to really open up and the wait was well worth it
Clear dark ruby colour with sleight brickish edge about 1/2 inch sludge left in bottle.
Palate was clean with rich berries to the fore
Nice fruit acidity balance with long aftertaste
Ethereal in sense that time in the decanter completely transformed the experience
35 year old wines require patience and careful treatment

Ata Rangi

Martinborough Pinot Noir 2013

Ripe red fruits with cherry to the fore. Also spice and a hint of ginger - smoky. A light to medium bodied palate finishing with ultra fine grained tannins. To be honest not as impressive as I was expecting. This wine seems to be between youthful exuberance but not yet gaining complexity. I did have one a few years ago brought by a friend which was delicious. Try the next in a year or so. — 4 years ago

Dutton Ranch Kyndall's Reserve Chardonnay 2016

Pale cram yellow color. Abundant legs. Mild pears on the nose. Crisp Apples and pears on the fore palate. Lovely acidity with a smooth, oak finish. Consistent throughout the bottle. (Complemented the fatty Risotto with chicken breast and white cheese sauce very nicely!) — 10 months ago

Emmanuel Rouget

Vosne-Romanée Pinot Noir 2019

2019 seems to be a controversial vintage chez Rouget. The Vosne-Romanee is certainly ripe, though not jammy or excessively opulent. The heat does come to the fore as the wine unfolds in the glass. It’s undeniably delicious, though it may not prove long-lived. — 2 years ago

Château Peyrat

Graves 2016

Lovely medium bodied white with a fair number of legs. Subtle notes of floral on the nose. Pears & apricots on the fore palate followed by soft but distinct minerals, and finished with whispers of citrusy lemon - lime. Enjoyed it with Tim at Tarpon Lodge on Pine Island (seafood & filet) — 3 years ago
