Astro Lab Brewer, Silver Spring MD. Hazy IPA with Mosaic, Columbus and Citra hops. 7.1%
Medium gold, big, slightly rocky head that is quite persistent. Knock-out nose which to me reads as pine resin/juniper berry. Very well balanced with a just-so textural play between hop bitterness and malty sweetness. — 14 days ago
Really good follow up but, there is a reason the Italians hold their reds back an additional 1-3 years. This 09 is good but, needs another 8-9 years in bottle to show its full brilliance. It does improve with two hours in the decanter. However, still a lot primary earth & barrel toast/char.
The fruits are; juicy, ripe & ruby. blackberries, dark cherries, black plum, black raspberries, poached strawberries with hovering raspberries. Dark spice, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon stick, vanilla, tarry notes, used expresso grounds, dark chocolate bar, caramel, herbs, forest floor with dry leaves, leather, dry tobacco, moist, rich, turned earth, dry soils, limestone, moist clay, calistoga bathtub mud with ruby, slightly candied, fresh & withering florals that are; dark, red, blue, purple/glowing violets in creamy lavender. The acidity is round & beautiful. The long finish is; juicy fruit, well balanced, elegant, persistent, falling onto cinnamon stick, spice & earth. — 10 days ago
Star bright pale yellow gold. Light nose and medium palate of yellow apple, satsuma, and white flowers with a touch of birch and anise in the moderate finish. Medium plus acidity. A fresh, rich take on Albariño. The barrel treatment subtly adds body and richness without taking away from the classic bright qualities. Drink now through 2025. — 16 days ago
2017 vintage. @Delectable Wine this is the Union Sacre La Passion de Legionnaire Merlot. Lots of finesse and freshness. Raspberry, red plum, blackberry, tart cherry, pomegranate, a bit of a red floral thing, new oak-inflected vanilla, mocha, and coconut notes. Great texture, definitely lends that Santa Ynez coastal elegance and texture. — 24 days ago

Velvet, crushed rose petals, blackberries, pine with frost upon it. What a rockstar bouquet.
Wow. Right up my alley. Well balanced. Fruit forward, sure, but the emphasis here is that undercurrent spice kick of star anise, black peppercorn, and nutmeg. All the right feels here. A brush of acidity, and just the right dryness to make you lick your lips. — 15 days ago
Cali wine for Cali VP victory. Not great but perfect for today — 23 days ago
New addition to the cabinet, first Dalmore. On the nose very bizarre, albeit tantalizing notes of clove, star anise, and candied orange peel. On the palate very smooth yet expressive notes of roasted coffee and espresso-dark chocolate nibs. Lovely scotch. — 2 days ago
100% Petite Arvine. Star bright deep-ish gold. Abundant, wildly aromatic nose of orange pulp and peel and white and yellow flowers. Medium full palate yields similar flavors adding a hint of white pepper and anise on the finish. Medium “just enough” acidity makes for a sturdy winter white (of course) that makes a perfect alternative to “yet another Chardonnay.” Enjoy with pot pies, casseroles, or roasted fowl or pork. Drink now though 2025. — 13 days ago
