Early Mountain

Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

It's time for my #FridayCabernetfix.

Dark ruby in color with a reddish rim.

Strong nose of blackberries, black plums, cooked cherries, cedar, licorice, vanilla, spices, light earth, peppercorn, chocolates, tobacco, dried meats and herbs.

Full bodied, smooth and elegant, with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, plums, cooked cherries, cedar, leather, vanilla, licorice, chocolates, herbs, spices, earth, light vegetables, tobacco leaf and peppercorn.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Big, yet elegant. Fruit forward and spicy.

Showing nice complexity with a nice mouthfeel. Tangy and interesting.

This 5 year old will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years. Good right out of the bottle, and better after 3 hours of airtime.

A tiny production of only 600 bottle.

Good by itself and with food. Paired wonderfully with meats and cheeses.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

93 points.

Estate Bottled Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

This is an Interesting Cabernet from Spring Mountain.

Full bodied with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with nice complexity.

Showing black fruits with cedar, earth, vanilla, spices, vegetables, bitter herbs, green pepper, tobacco leaf, coffee and black pepper.

This Napa Cabernet is still young, and shows lots of earthy notes. Feels like a left bank Bordeaux. The Cabernet franc is very dominant right now.

A good sipping wine with good structure and a nice mouthfeel.

Good right out of the bottle and better with airtime. Would be nice to revisit it in 3 years.

Nicely balanced and good by itself or with food. Will pair nicely with BBQ Meats.

A blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Aged for 21 months in French Oak barrels.

14.3% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

2 hour decant(decent fine/cloudy sediment). A brooding dark garnet color with little signs of aging. On the nose: plum, currants, funky smoked meat, mint, and pepper. Taste: soft, smooth wine with some blackberry, sweet tobacco, earth, spiced dark chocolate and some still there slightly astringent tannins....had better Dunn. — 11 days ago

I think their Howell Mountain bottling is the moodiest wine I’ve ever had vintage after vintage. When it’s on, it’s too good to pass up so I buy it every year 😆

This is a terrific value. As others have noted, it’s fruit forward. Like a baby Caymus. — 2 days ago

Howell Mountain Grenache 2016

Perfect pairing with a smokey bacon and carmelized onion risotto. Very floral aroma and bright berry aftertaste. Only a few bottles left. — 11 days ago
