Dakota Shy Napa Valley Rosé of Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

A pretty full-bodied rose. Sparkling tropical fruits (a lot of watermelon and strawberry) with a very satisfying finish. Another wonderful wine from Todd Newman and Dakota Shy! — 3 months ago

Castanho Vineyard Mourvèdre 2015

Originally I passed on this wine, it was offered to me and I thought it was just a cute label. Frankly it’s fitting that the imagery deals with school because I failed that test. Talk about smooth, you could be playing poker with Paul Newman while listening to the Rat Pack wearing a leather jacket like Steve McQueen and you would approach this level of smooth and cool. Hardly to no tannins or overwhelming acid but fresh. Low in alcohol, or at least it tastes like it, but just wonderful warm and inviting fruit without being too jammy or over ripe. A small hint of vanilla and just enough sweet spices to keep things interesting. Smells of deep ruby, almost purple fruit. You know that girl that wears sweats to class everyday and later ends up being a runway model? Tasting this is her email saying she always thought you were cute. — 2 years ago

Atmosphère Côtes de Provence Extra Brut Rosé 2014

On the Lawn at Tanglewood this evening with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Our guest conductor David Newman is leading a live-to-picture performance of Leonard Bernstein’s score for “West Side Story”, originally directed by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins, and with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.
For live-to-picture productions, the orchestra performs the entire movie score in real time as the film unspools. (Vocals, dialogue and effects are isolated from the original music track.) The BSO installed very fancy and large LED screens on the perimeter of the Shed facing the Lawn, amazing!

Very nice light Salmon color. Nice fruit, 50% Cinsault & 50% Grenache. Very tasty, much better than their still rosé.

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

This wine is spectacular and, sadly, my last bottle. Blueberries, cassis, dark chocolate, and violets. Superbly integrated and extremely elegant. Todd Newman really produces amazing wines. — 5 months ago

Dry for a spätlese, no formal notes, we enjoyed this on my tailgate as we waited for the crazy traffic tonight to get out of the lot. We witnessed no less than (2) accidents with drivers unable to manage a standard transmission on a wet hill (oh yeah we got rained on during the show tonight).

Yes, a great show. I might have caught myself singing a few times, 'I feel pretty'...😜. The BSO brings the sound level of the orchestra up a little higher, for obvious reasons, above what's traditionally the level in the film. The minor collisions are inevitable in one lot, it's hilly and rain makes the grass slick. Love watching those whom think that more gas is the substitute for low traction. 9x out of 10x it's just someone lightly smacking the rear of the car in front, until they reach the pavement. Most of the second home owners here don't drive aging Datsun's, so that always interesting.

Loving this bottle, notes are a little different tonight, citrus pith, green apple and cooked grain (oh so faint tho). The show ended and we finished this in the parking lot as we waited for the insane traffic to dissipate. So much better once it warms up. 3hr decant before the show.

Clos de Malte Santenay Chardonnay 2011

On the Lawn at Tanglewood this afternoon with the Boston Pops Orchestra. Our conductors are David Newman and John Williams are leading a diverse program of cinematic works composed by John Williams entitled "Across The Stars: Music Of John Williams". We'll enjoy pieces from Star Wars (various episodes), Harry Potter, E.T., Memoirs of a Geisha and many others. All works to feature the violin virtuoso, Anne-Sophie Mutter, a personal favorite soloist of ours on these hallowed grounds. Mr. Williams has rearranged many of the selections today to better feature Ms. Mutter, an exciting afternoon will lay ahead. 🎼🎻

A nicely aging monopole Chardonnay, loving the lightly oxidized yellow fruits.

Nose has oxidized, yellow apple skin peel, papaya and medium oak more notable today than prior bottles, albeit not distracting but embracing.

Palate has creamy, tropical fruits, over-ripe lemon and light minerality.

Just an exceptional bottle, likely the best of all the 'Clos de Malte' 2011's we've enjoyed to date.

Here in LA there are usually a few John Williams conducted Hollywood Bowl performances each summer—I haven’t been in years but you’re reminding me I need to go! So many light sabers, so little time...
