Beautiful nearly 35 year old Banyuls Rimage from Dr. Parce, this old vine (mostly) Grenache is a fortified dessert wine (17.5% ABV) that pairs perfectly with my wife’s chocolate pate w/raspberry sauce!! The Banyuls is a tad less sweet than a comparable Port of similar age, and thus provides (for me) a better contrast with moderately sweet chocolate pate. One of Domaine Mas Blanc’s three single-vineyard wines, Les Junquets comes from a steep west-facing terraced parcel in Collioure – an appellation Mas Blanc’s André Parcé greatly contributed to establish in the 1970s. Blend of 90% Syrah, 5% Marsanne and 5% Rousanne vinified together and aged in old Bordeaux barriques for one year. Complex nose, with aromas of dark fruit (prunes, cassis), coffee and savory, smoky character. On the palate, it is balanced, with flavors of cherries and chocolate. Long finish. — 6 years ago

Thanksgiving dessert wine paired with pumpkin and apple pie, the color is a kind of dark fog color, definitely showing its age, with some coppery hints to the edges. Medium to silky full on the body, with dessert focused notes of butterscotch, fig preserves, slight vanilla, raspberry compote and fresh baked goods notes, like an amazing fig newton. Sweet palate, with more fig newton, vanilla, cinnamon, orange, caramel and apple pie. A perfect pairing! — 9 months ago
