Great wine from paradox — a month ago
Popped and poured; consumed over two days. Consistent throughout. The 2020 Alain Graillot pours a deep ruby with a hit of violet. Medium+ viscosity with significant staining of the tears. Some slight signs of fine sediment. On the nose, the wine is moderate intensity. Fresh black bramble fruit, baked/smoked blueberries, dry oil cured black olives, black pepper, lavender potpourri, dried herb encrusted saucisson, stony minerals and subtle baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry; medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes on the nose. The finish is so long with a streak of minerals. The body is medium but the fruit is so grippy and clings to the palate giving the impression that it’s bigger than it is. Maxime said that they had picked way early compared to previous, recent years and completed harvest by September 3rd; a whole week before their neighbors began harvest. It shows. Remarkably fresh. Lovely. Utterly beautiful. Drink now with patience (and to enjoy the full-send freshness) or enjoy over the next 15+ years. Alain’s legacy seems to be in very good hands. — 2 months ago
From a bottle that had been opened the day before with half the contents remaining so these notes are from Day 2. The wine pours a deep purple with a ruby rim and a near opaque core. Medium+ viscosity with significant staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing and already brimming with confidence. Bright blue bramble fruits, lavender, black pepper, olive tapenade, some well oiled leather and some baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The body and supple texture is distinctive. The finish is long and satisfying. From a Cornas perspective, this is less wild and more polished but that’s not a slight. This is a beautifully made Cornas from one of my favorite vintages in the Rhône over the last 15 years. — a month ago
Had it with smoked pork shoulder, brought out the fruit, well balanced, excellent Syrah — a month ago
Archetypal northern Rhône Syrah. Dark fruit, black pepper, herbs, and a bit briney. Nice and savory. — a month ago

2011 vintage. Solid aging cork in great shape along with a good fill. Decanted and tasted immediately and over the course of 1.5 hours. Threw zero sed. Light-medium body. Earthy, rhubarb, sous bois nose. Same in flavor profile with an additional, pleasant trace of dirtiness. Well-made and holding up very nicely but clearly on the subtle side of the ledger at this point. Any overt NSG fruitiness in the nursery is gonzo. Pretty but not in a youthful way. Aging very gracefully with another 5-7 years at this stage before changing addresses. 12.2.23. — 2 days ago
