Smells of bright cherry, raspberry, dried strawberry and violets. Raspberry, plum and light cranberry with thyme and roses on the palate. Touch of anise, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger snap, but all pulled together by the fruit and a layer of saffron-apple. Uniquely delightful. Had with Sashimi, and wasabi to cut the fog, so held its own. #sojourncellars #russianrivervalley #russianriverpinot #rrv #sonoma #pinotnoir #pn — 3 days ago
Actually a cleanskin of the Lindemans bin 5687 Traminer Riesling and I am not sure if the Riesling was instead a semillon at that stage.
The wine was absolutely past its peak, but had some freshness and a long after taste.
Bought on auction from James Halliday' cellar collection.
1979 was a great vintage in Hunter Valley
Surely happy I tried, but not the greatest.
After 4 hrs I go back on the remaining half btl of the wine which was left unattended on the kitchen bench with a random cork inserted since its own obviously crumbed at the opening.
Well, don't ask me, but the wine has opened up aromas earlier hidden of white chocolate, macadamia, hay, ginger, apricot jam, a bountiful of flowers, lemon grass, English breakfast tea and so much more. Not so sweet at all and very enjoyable now. Definitely something I might not be able to experience again perhaps.

It is a dark wine, and the nose is very expressive. Blackberry, cassis, vanilla, tea and a slight brambly note are present. On the palate, savory cola and oak spice get into the act, while the tannins are firm, but not overly so. The dark fruit is there, but the savory aspect of the flavor profile definitely leads the way. Have a juicy filet with this one - they deserve each other. — 2 days ago
Medium lemon in colour. An intriguing classy nose showing funky leesy notes, nectarine, cashew nut, flint and gunsmoke - many nuances. Palate staining citric intensity. One of the world’s great new world Chardonnays - no exaggeration. Has become an annual purchase for me. Postscript:: Similar notes to the 2010 vintage 193 weeks ago. This year I bought the “Hunting Hill” and “Coddington” Cuvées for the first time. Will be interesting to see the differences. — 9 hours ago
Lovely nose, white orchard fruit, freshly cut herbs, On the palate typical warm-climate SB, Good freshness when served right from the fridge. Alas, the finish is slightly marred by an abundance of citrus peel bitterness and alcoholic heat (15,5% ABV...)
