Château Thivin

Cuvée La Chapelle Côte de Brouilly Gamay 2015

Fucking terrific. Elegant. Currant essence.

A hint of elegant perfumed barnyard. Lilac essence.

Palate is sweet juicy grapey. Crazy assed persistence. Sick freshness.

Such a good wine from Thivin. Maybe 50 year old vines, so middle aged. Awesome depth. Grapey, snappy, cherry, so classic. Smells like it’s bursting. And it is, blueberry, black cherry, sour cherry all form a symphony of cherries and crunch hard. Beautiful purity and freshness. A great vintage for this wine. Textured and juicy. Ripe and generous tannin suggests 5-8 years of life ahead of it. Extraordinarily long finish. — 5 months ago

FYI this died on day 2. Unusual.

Cuvée Zaccharie Côte de Brouilly Gamay 2015

A brooding nose of dark fruits and earth with no signs of alcohol. Full body but the acidity keeps things in line. A mixture of red and blue fruit, and iron all surrounded by a core of juiciness. An easy cellar candidate . — 6 months ago

Cuvée Godefroy Côte de Brouilly Gamay 2019

I was worried this would be too closed, but with a 4 hour decant, this is really a marvelous wine. So much depth and complexity, great dark berry fruit, with wonderful freshness that goes on and on with the long finish. Excited to see how this evolves over the coming years but don’t at all regret opening one now - just delicious. Really impressed. — 2 months ago

Love this nose. The first of the Thivin single vineyards. The “least serious” but always a favorite. Nose is out of sight. Gorgeous aromas of lipstick like tiny red berry fruit intensity. Rises up like volcanic smoke. It’s expansive to say the least. Really smells crunchy. 19 seems like 14 for me. Maybe with a dash of 16 thrown in. Palate delivers the crunch, the silkiness and refinement this cuvee is known for. Very pure red cherry fruits burst in your mouth and are cleansed with great acidity and engaging minerality. Bright. Really pure, classic and balanced. Not a hair out of place. Long, very well defined red fruits and so much joy make this a perfect wine to take the rainy day blues away. — 4 months ago

I had with Passover meal. I have always found to be closed & more ‘ dumb’ in its infancy- almost like Olga Raffault chinon. Yet all the juicy & rewarding red fruit is there. Kermit importer. — 6 months ago
