2015 vintage. As I am moving to Bordeaux (and more precisely Bourg sur Gironde) it makes sense to dig a bit deeper in the Côtes de Bourg appellation. It's not the most renowned part of Bordeaux, even with one pricey superstar (Roc des Cambes). But wow, did this one exceed my expectations! The estate has an ancient history, but up to 1993 the grapes were sold to a local co-operative. The present owner Philippe Betschart moved the estate since 2010 into organic and biodynamical farming. This "Terroir" is a somewhat atypical blend (65% of both Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon, with the remainder Merlot) for the region where Merlot is king. More black than red fruit in the nose (cassis, blackberry) with some tobacco and a discrete licorice touch. In the mouth it has amazing elegance. The 14% alcohol go unnoticed, the fruit is bright and lively and the tannins velvety. This has class and depth for the price range (under 20 euros). Highly recommended. — 6 years ago
2017 vintage. Opened on 8th Aug 2020. Starts to open up after 30mins breathing. Leathery nose. Too complex taste, slight sweetness. Good to be a casual drink. Mild to moderate finishing. — 6 years ago
Fabulous wine to have. Has a nice texture and taste. Quite cheap too. — 8 years ago
Really like this. — 9 months ago
We really enjoyed this one. Eleven years after the vintage, and we paired it with our Easter dinner which was really a varied feast of steaks, ham, veggies, and roast potatoes. Red and dark fruit here with a flintiness present. Nice depth here. A beautiful pairing with our marbled steak. Great memories trying these wines for the first time at the Vancouver International Wine Festival a few years back. — 6 years ago

— 6 years ago
Typical fleshy wine of the appellation. Fruity notes of blackberries, cassis, black plum, chocolate, eucalyptus. Well-melted woody vanilla tertiary notes. Full-bodied and generous wine with a lingering finish on vigorous round tannins. To drink with chocolate desserts, spicy cuisine, duck southwest style. For fans of tannic wines, this is to be discovered as a matter of urgency, as it is much more accessible than Bordeaux wines. price / pleasure ratio ++

Moment. Excellent accord avec le boeuf Wellington. — 6 years ago

Aromas of plums, wet brown leaves and Forrest Floor. Flavors of cooked plums, raisins, cola and cocoa. Hint of cedar. Full bodied and nicely complex. Well balanced. Nice wine. Revisited in November 2021. Still holding up nicely. Above notes still apply. — 6 years ago
Very nicely balanced bottle. Tastes of leather, and tobacco with wood tones early rounding out to nice cherry, plum raisin with a nice lingering finish. It is nice to taste the influence of each of the varietals. — 7 years ago

2019 vintage. Decanted and tasted after one hour. Non-committal nose. Light-medium/medium body. Grace and elegance with some dark fruit and earthy markers placed throughout. Overall, it is flowing fairly seamlessly now without bumping into any sharp edges. Expected a bigger wine. Pleased it wasn’t. No previous experience with this wine/producer but maan…having a half-case of this (or more) would really be nice as this covers an absolute ton of food options. 3.13.26. — 7 months ago
