Côte D’or

Anne Boisson

Bourgogne Aligoté 2018

Pop and pour, notes from 2 hrs open. On the nose: fruitier than my last btl, with sweet lime, sweet tomato leaf, and soft vanilla. On the palate: same fantastic acidity. underripe.gooseberry, herbs/tomato leaf, good density, and some nice tang on the finish. Not quite as good as my last btl, but still very good. — 13 days ago

Bonneau du Martray

Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Chardonnay 1986

On to the white burg course… when I opened this 5 hours before guests arrived, the first whiff caused a smile and I told my wife, “this is why you age white burg!” What an amazing nose right from the get-go. Straw to medium gold color, bright and heavy in the glass. High-pitched nose with notes of meyer lemon, cardamom, kiwi, tan spice, gravel stone and almond paste. Palate staining acidity in the mouth. So much energy for a 35+ year old Chardonnay. I’ve had this many times in the past, and tonight it might just have been at its best! (Bday 3 of 12) — 4 days ago

Crazy how good 85 and 86 BdM CC have been forever. Happy b-day.

Domaine des Comtes Lafon

Volnay-Champans 1er Cru Pinot Noir 1999

Magical nose, very aromatic, complex, elegant with layers and layers. The palate is soft, classy, silky, texture is great, length is impressive, the tannins that have no more grip though and make the palate slightly less magical than the nose. Great experience. 93-94

Un nez magique, complexe, fin, élégant avec des couches et des couches d’arômes. La bouche est fine, élégante et a beaucoup de classe, les tannins sont totalement fondus mais la texture est belle et soyeuse. 93-94

Domaine Charles François & Fils

Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2003

Vintage 2009 | very vital and vibrant Pinot Noir. Half transparant. Brown rim. Strawberry in smell ánd taste, quite frivolous and elegant. Thus: very true to type. Paired with grilled tunafish, fried zucchini and some pasta. — 4 days ago

Domaine Ponsot

Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir 1990

Third 90 Ponsot bottle served blind. This is bright tawny and translucent. When compared to the CSD served before it, this is more masculine with a dark cherry nose that is tight for the first 4-5 hours. By the time it’s served, though, it’s opened up and comes on as a rich and very powerful glass of juice. In addition to the regular notes of bing cherry, dark earth and rhubarb, this adds some mocha and a little cherry cola as well. Has a Rousseau-like precision in its delivery. From where it started to where it ended ~9 hours after opening, this evolved and improved the most. Great experience! (Bday 8 of 12) — 4 days ago

Paul Jaboulet Aîné

Les Jumelles Côte-Rôtie Syrah 1961

Dark reddish amber. Deep color in the center, opaque; clear rims showing its age. Great nose… my wife would say “stinky feet”, something I just call “the funk”. Notes of black cherry, gravel, violets, musty cellar and black pepper. Very much alive in the glass and showing lots of fruit when it hits the mouth. Guesses by the fellas were early 90s La La, and one 78 La La. At first this was very much Cote-Rotie like, but with air it evolved into and out of acting as such. Pretty happy this has held up like it has. (Bday 10 of 12) — 4 days ago

Actually quite impressive. Supercharged with Morello Cherries touch Rangpur lines. Almost over the top. But boy is this fun and tasty. Will be interesting to see the evolution. — 9 hours ago

Last of these bottles. Past notes apply. Floral, herbal, tart red fruit, perfume. Very nice round body, plump yet delicate. Enjoyable finish.

Domaine Leflaive

Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru Chardonnay 1986

Medium gold in color, slightly darker than the 86 Bonneau du Martray next to it. Heavy in the glass. Sweet floral nose. Notes of sweet kiwi fruit, lemon curd, apple cider and white acacia flowers. Lacked acidity at first but with many hours of air this powered up. Last sip was the best. I preferred the other whites to this, but was happy to see this improve so much during the evening. We discussed this being Vincent Leflaive’s last vintage, and sadly this was the last bottle in my cellar of 86 Leflaive. (Bday 4 of 12) — 4 days ago

Domaine Armand Rousseau

Les Cazetiers Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2009

Pure silk and ultra lux texture. This is super expressive and accessible right now. It shows serious power and intensity with the ripeness of the vintage evident in its concentrated dark fruit flavors, but it never becomes out of balance and its vibrant and lifted acidity and mineral inflicted finish keep everything harmonious. Of the Rousseau repertoire, Cazetiers is what least makes it to the US so it’s always a special treat to try. — 2 days ago
