Dark ruby coloration with some brown hints. A little bit of translucency. On the nose, cherry, vanilla, leather and minerals. On the palate, cherry, vanilla, minerals, earth, currants, and a long finish of cherry and vanilla. This wine has great length. Tannins are strong but not overpowering. Nicely balanced for a 2016 barbaresco. $50 at B-21. — 14 days ago
Decanted for 4 hours and consumed over the next 3. Dark tawny, almost opaque. Bright Barolo nose. Notes of ripe cherry, red roses, some anise, some tea, a hint of black tar and some wood. Dry and acidic in the mouth. The nose is the beauty of this wine. For the future, it’s questionable if the fruit will last long enough to wait for the acidity to soften enough. — a month ago
Sharp on the nose, plum up front in the palate. Bright tannins. Okay/black pepper finish — 8 months ago
Tenuta Carretta Bric Paradiso Roero DOCG Riserva 2015: Beautiful nose. Bright red fruits. Cherry. Tobacco. Earth. Oak. A perfect balance with a smooth, dry finish. All in all, an excellent & true representation of the Nebbiolo grape varietal and the obvious, clear winner & favorite of the evening’s backyard wine challenge! This is a top Nebbiolo and one that I will store & savor again in years to come! Cheers🍷 — 3 months ago
This is splendid. Really just enjoyed drinking this. Don't want to be too analytical. I have more and will post detailed notes later. Meanwhile, black cherry, earth/soil, toasted almond, vanilla, with a little hot alcohol still dominating the nose. Medium minus acidity on the palate, high alcohol, firm, still puckering tannins. This will likely improve. Very very good.

Cork intact, decanted with some fine sediment for one hour. Looking like the color of tea and as clear as that too. Lots of umami and similar aromas of aged Madeira — 9 months ago
