Bodegas Muga

Selección Especial Rioja Tempranillo 2016

Deep ruby in color, almost Inky, with a short reddish rim.

Full bodied and smooth with medium acidity and long legs.

Very dry on the palate with nice complexity.

Showing blueberries, plums, cooked cherries, black currants, light cedar, dark coffee, chocolates, earth, peppercorn, pencil lead, tobacco leaf, light vegetables and bitter herbs.

Short, tangy finish with fine grained tannins and pomegranates.

This 8 year old Rioja Reserva is still young and very dry, but already drinkable.

Lacking a bit of fruits on the palate, but the nose is gorgeous, once it opens up. The nose is more interesting than the palate at this point.

Needs a few hours to open up properly, so take your time.

Will continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 10 years. Would be interesting to try it again in 5 years.

A good food wine that will pair nicely with a nice piece of steak.

A blend of 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha, 7% Mazuelo and 3% Graciano.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

Blend of 45% Cab Sauv, 45% Monastrell & 10% Syrah, a blend from vines averaging 50 years old, aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels separately before blending. Deep Ruby with aromas of red/black fruit and spicy notes. On the palate flavors of cherry and black currants, espresso and smoky oak notes. Firm ripe tannins, medium finish ending with fruit, oak and earthy spice. Good value! — 10 months ago

Château Musar

Hochar Père & Fils Bekaa Valley Red Blend 2019

My first #chateaumusar - taciturn black fruit, cassis, sous bois on the nose. Palate with conspicuous acidity up front, sturdy tannins mid-palate on the finish. Delicious wine now but easily could cruise 10 to 15 years longer. Fascinating 50% #cinsault 40% #grenache 10% #cabernetsauvignon — 4 months ago

Drank 10/24/23.

Nice black and purple fruit on the nose with a bit of earth and funk that mostly blows off after 30 min. Similar palate with dusty tannins. This was better a few years ago, but it is still quite good. Drink now.

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

It's time for my #FridayCabernetfix. Here is a beautiful one from Bordeaux.

Dark ruby in color with a short reddish rim.

Fruity nose with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, cedar, vanilla, spices, espresso, earth, tobacco leaf, herbs and black pepper.

Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, oak, light vanilla, earth, wet leaves, herbs, peppercorn, pencil lead, dark coffee, dark chocolates and tobacco leaf.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 7 year old, from the great 2015 vintage, is drinking very nice right now.

This Fifth growth Bordeaux is showing nice complexity, with a soft and elegant mouthfeel.

Good right out of the bottle, and better after 3 hours in the decanter.

Young, but already delicious, and will continue to age nicely in the next 20 years.

Robert Parker 97 points.

Good by itself as a sipping wine, and good with food too. Will pair nicely with a nice piece of steak.

A Delicious wine that drank better than the 1996 I had 4 years ago.

A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and a touch of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Aged in French oak barrels (50% new) for 16 months.

Mt. Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

This 5 year old Cabernet Sauvignon from Mount Veeder is delicious right now, although still young.

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Strong fruity nose of cedar, black fruits and chocolate notes.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity and nice complexity.

Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, spices, oak, licorice, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, peppercorn and light cola.

Medium plus on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

Tangy and rich, yet elegant. Needs a few hours to open up properly, so be patient.

Will continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 10 years, and has good potential to become a 94+ point wine.

A great sipping wine that will also pair nicely with a big piece of steak.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas!

Scents of plum, blackberry, currant, and chocolate. Flavors are similar, with blackberry, plum sauce, and soil. Tannins are still firm, but, well integrated and mix with black fruits on the long finish. This one goes on for over a minute. Drinking well now, but showing no signs of slowing down. This should last another 10 plus years, but is in a nice place now.

Great with a NY strip, but even better with the balsamic glaze that complimented it. This pairs wonderfully with sweet dark fruit flavors.

1972 Chateauneuf-Du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 1972

What an interesting wine, aged in concrete for 50 years, the nose was full of leather and spice, the acidity was remarkable, loved the weight and finish of the wine. I presented as a much younger wine. Thanks Jeff for opening this unique bottle. — a year ago
