Tasted blind. Reddish tawny and young looking. Intense nose. Notes of raspberry, rhubarb, camphor, mocha, Asian spice and dark soil. Rich and intense in the mouth. We’re told this was given lots of air – which led guesses to be red burg more in the late 90s or 00’s. The reveal was exciting as none of us have had a bottle from this vigneron before. Super high quality juice, still on it’s upward climb. This juice will be around, giving pleasure to those that have it, for another decade or two and will undoubtedly improve with more age. — 5 years ago

I never expected the 2011 Chambertin to have such a firm backbone! I opened it yesterday at 3:30 for decanter breathing, then started glass-breathing at 6:30. Right after pouring, it was extremely tight – it wasn't until 8:30, after two full hours in the glass, that the aromas finally emerged: intense floral and powdery rose notes, with a powerful structure, great depth, and hints of chocolate, earth, leather, tobacco, and a peppery spice. The fruit was certainly there, but it wasn't soft or delicate. To be honest, this was a great wine in terms of aroma, structure, and quality – but it wasn't easy drinking. It felt like hard work, and frankly, it's not my preferred style. I took half the bottle home. Then tonight at 6:00, I opened the remaining half – and wow, the nose was bursting with wild roses, violets, and powdery perfume. The palate was a pure delight: the tannins had turned incredibly silky, with black cherry and sour plum intertwined, finishing clean, sweet, and refreshing. Completely opened up. This wine, when closed, is deep, introverted, and grand in structure; once open, it becomes flamboyant and exuberant. From now on, I think the best approach for Chambertin is an 8-hour decanter breather, followed by glass-breathing to appreciate its evolution along the way. — 18 days ago

Took it's time to open up. Had a sweaty reduction when first open, which eventually developed into this smoky flinty tone. Ripe fruit, big, concentrated, oily, and dense. Air brought out more classic citrus and oyster shell notes, as well as some honeyed and yoghurt-like characters. For me, this is certainly a wine of it's vintage. While the length is impressive, I think it could do with more nerve and tension. Perhaps time will bring it more balance (like the 00' Butteaux I had recently - both from warmer years and more muscular sites, although 00' is perhaps a better vintage). — 8 years ago

Not my favorite vintage of Dominus but paired well when served blind with the 00 Lynch Bages showing Bordeaux like notes of red & black fruits, cassis, earth, cedar & leather that was not as rich & aromatic as the LB. — 7 years ago
