Presented double-blind. The wine pours a slightly translucent garnet with an orange rim; medium viscosity with moderate staining and some signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of dried and ripe, red and black fruits: brambles, Bing cherry, old wood and old leather bound books, baking chocolate, grated nutmeg, organic earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ (resolved) tannins and medium+ acidity. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. Called Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend from France, Bordeaux, Left Bank, Medoc, 1990. LOL…that’s pretty close! For those wondering, the bottle was opened and decanted for sediment several hours prior. For my palate, Duhart-Milon needs decades to become interesting. Fully mature now though, this has at least a decade of enjoyable life left.

Happy 25 to this one. Best of the case so far. Bright color. No bricking. Just excellent.

The 2005 Duhart-Milon is a bit of a beast. Displays quite a dense, unforgiving pencil lead and tobacco-scented nose, and the fruit seems to take a back seat at the moment. The palate is well-balanced but undeniably brawny and rough-hewn, the kind of Pauillac you wouldn't want to meet down a dark alley at midnight. This is a bit hard going at the moment. This was an ex-château bottle served at Maison François in London. (Neal Martin, Vinous, January 2023)

A blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Merlot, aged in 50% new oak. Dark Ruby with dark ripe berry fruit aromas and spice. On the palate flavors of blackberry and cherry with toasty herb spice and cedar notes. Fine tannins, full body on long finish ending with developing fruit, oak and spice. Great now. Should continue to benefit with cellar time. Nice!

Another 2005. Magnum kept the oxygen in check, but reveals it still quite young. Magnolia in a warm breeze. Cherry blossom. Pine, chainsaw heated. Coffee rye. Violets, both fresh and dry, on this floral led bouquet. Rich blackberry in a medium-verging-heavy mouthfeel rich black currant, ripe cassis, sloes, rosemary, sweet mocha tobacco, black cherry and smoke. Relentlessly rich.

Dark cat peers seductively through a glass dimly. Ribbons of African violet, blackberry under cocoa nib, nutmeg, dark smooth stone, suede, ripe, unbroken black cherry, dried currant, poppyseed. Strong taste of black currant, black olive, tart cherry, fig, raisin, dried cranberry, tabak, and graphite-peppercorn protruding from a blackberry and violet concoction. Elegant with sinew. Very alive, and a bit young after all that. Impressive depth.

It has gotten to the point I need two wines with the Allen Brothers sampler of Ribcap & Wagyu Ribeye w/ my Roasted Rosemary Potatoes & Christina’s tasty glazed carrots.

The 02 DuHart over achieving the vintage.

The 12 Lutum Durell Vineyard hugs the Rosemary Potato’s & Glazed Cooked Carrots.

The DuHart is dark fruit currants, smoke, tobacco, pronounced lead pencil, clay, river stone, limestone, dark spice, dry& fresh herbs, eucalyptus/mint, dry twig, crushed dry rocks, forest floor and dark wilted flowers with nice acidity & polish & elegance for days.

A bit tired and faded over two hours. Blackberry, currants and tobacco. Smelled like the Nat Sherman store.
