There are a lot of seriously amazing #syrah that is coming out of #sbcounty from #santamariavalley and #staritahills like #storm #dragonette and #holusbolus #zotovich yet this seems like an antithesis to what I love about those wines. This smells and tastes like chocolate milk on acid. Where’s the crushed pepper? Where’s the rich black fruit and herbs? Reminds me of the Wendy’s commercial “where’s the meat?” For me the oak isn’t noble. Seems like staves or chips. This is a 2017 it should be showing complexity and tertiary but it’s just one-dimension fruity raspberries, milk chocolate and acid. Not my thing #losolivos #overrated — 3 years ago

#overrated tasted it blind with 3 other #supertuscan wines ranging from 40€, 75€ and these and #ornellaia (the best). all the other 3 were better. This was light intensity aromas on the nose, it really the least aromatic and then on the palate it was acidic just a little disjointed and unbalanced. — 4 years ago

Interesting comment, @MICHAEL COOPER— many years ago I secured 4 bottles of the 1985 Sassacaia on release, put one into a 1985 Bordeaux/CalCab super vertical with 5 flights, 30 wines total, blind to everyone (I knew which flight of 6 it was in, but not which wine it was). Our group of 12 tasters was so underwhelmed that I took advantage of the RP100 score and unloaded the remaining 3 bottles for more than $1,250 per, and never looked back. To each his own, though, as I know folks who adore Sassacaia!!

@MICHAEL COOPER I love this wine but this was not a great bottle alas. I've had it on prior occasions when it was much better. I think Jamet is actually great value for the complexity and age worthiness. You can't find much comparable burgundy or BDX for the same price.
