Round and supple mouthfeel of red cherry and bing cherry, shows ample cedar and cigar notes, oak and tart raspberry, cracked black pepper, rose petal and finally winds into a smoky graphite point that will undoubtedly blossom over the next decade.

Tasted next to the 2010, this is finer in structure and more accessible now. Well made and seamless front to back, 2012 was tough for many in Tuscany but this seems to have come through rather unscathed.

The 2015 Fontodi Chianti Classico is an over-performer in every possible way, showing masses of black cherry and raspberry with dusty minerals, hints of cedar and new leather. There’s a cool-toned precision beneath it’s warm vintage fruit, with grippy tannins which quickly firm up the experience, while zesty acids tug at the cheeks. Excellent as usual, this is always at the top of the list as far as Italian Syrah is concerned. Meaty, spicy and plenty of fresh black and blue fruits, the structure on this is so repenting enough to enjoy now with some air to let it stretch out.
