Bodegas Muga

Selección Especial Rioja Tempranillo 2016

Mike R

Ok it is finally here - the wine nerd herd 5 year reunion has started - in 2016 - the herd met in NYC - there were amazing bonds and friendships developed and are intact to this day and growing
Initially there was @Carl Fischer @Ron R @Joe Lucca @David L as well as myself @Mike R and one other who had such a blast we have decided to this get together as a herd frequently and for most part we have been United and strong even doing zoom tastings whenever
Not long after the initial conclave in 2016 we traveled and expanded to include @Bill Bender @Shawn R @Eric L and our newest and a true foundation of youth and knowledge @Shay A and we have been to Palm Beach, Raleigh, San Diego, San Antonio, Des Moines, Paso Robles and now back to the starting place - NYC - 5 years later
Get ready New York as the herd is running hard and with purpose in the city that never sleeps
The picture / posting are two tune up tastings last Saturday with locals in Raleigh as I need practice a) red wines below 50 and b) red wines above 100
Standout to me was the Muga in the less than 50 and in the over 100 - all were good but Paul Hobbs, myriad, switchback ridge, Pulido walker
Of course the krug and aubert were good but maybe not able to keep up
The carnival of love and Don Melchor were delicious as well but were not equivalent to the Napa cabs that are all world class vineyards and winemakers
Again I say all this to say training is over and let the games begin in NYC as we have landed
Thank you @Ron R and @Carl Fischer for hosting the herd and I am stoked

Pretty sure I got ambushed by you and the gang on a Cheval-Blanc bender (no participant pun intended) Insane Diego. It was a great night.

Comtes de Champagne Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne Chardonnay 2007

Bright nose of lemon-cream, yellow apples, slight floral notes, key lime. Light and crisp taste followed by slight brown sugar and cream. Finishes with just a hint of toasted nuts. Hint of salinity and tiny bubbles make you keep coming back for more. — 2 years ago

Highland is a classic!

Château Peyrabon

Cru Bourgeois Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

Drinking excellently now. Plenty of aging left to go. Fresh and acidity despite the age. With nice complexity, depth and color due to age. Little sediment, which is also unusual given age. — 2 years ago

Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2017

Alex Lallos

Took a little bit to open up but wow when it did, awesome. Crushed dried rose petals, iron, melted tar and dark cherries on the nose. Seamless and brilliant. Chalky minerality and fine grained tannins. The best wine you’ll find for $70 on a wine list! — 2 years ago

Giant Steps

Yarra Valley Chardonnay 2020

So delicious! An absolute favorite Chard presents with no oak, crisp and nicely balanced between fruit and minerals!
After 2 days of no hummingbirds, finally had one today! Keep those feeders up!

@Dawn E. Beautiful cat! I have bird feeders and a squirrel feeder but not a hummingbird feeder. Luckily I have some sort of orange flower that grows around the yard and I see them around those.

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars

Artemis Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

i don’t drink much California Cab but this is a very, very good bottle of wine. extremely well balanced, very elegant mouthfeel and has a little bit of old world style to it. nose is jammy fruit, pencil shavings and tobacco or tea leaf. palate is more fruit forward, purple/black fruit, a lot of the bordeaux tobacco flavor profile too. very nice. — 2 years ago
