Wednesday Wine Committee “Founder’s Day”, honoring those who started this tradition back in the ‘70s. What an incredible group and tradition they started!

Head scratcher of the day. The nose reminded me of a Malbec with all the black licorice I was getting. Palate made me think left bank Bordeaux based on the tannic structure and the blackberry, anise, gripping finish. Didn’t guess it was this “old”, seemed younger. Then again ‘05s do that to you!

Spicy and pungent aromatics with some secondary character. Bright orange rind, cinnamon, cocoa powder notes layered beneath powerful red fruits. Lots of elegance and charm, incredible value.

Drinking excellently now. Plenty of aging left to go. Fresh and acidity despite the age. With nice complexity, depth and color due to age. Little sediment, which is also unusual given age.
