Honeybunch Reserve Chenin Blanc 2019

More and more I will be getting out of my comfort zone. This is a single vineyard Chenin Blanc from South Africa, Stellenbosch. Hand-picked whole bunches, kept on the skins for 12 hours after harvest before gentle pressing. 12 month fermentation and maturation in 225L French oak barrels. The skin contact produces a beautiful medium gold color that's as shiny as a wedding band on a honeymoon. Indeed, honeysuckle is among the aromas that also include pear, peach, apricot, marmalade, and a twist of lime. Everything gets confirmed on the palate, with a touch of brioche. Medium plus bodied, dry (with a hint of residual sugar on the tongue), medium acidity. A great wine.

I’ve enjoyed this before. Nice wine indeed.

Domaine Hudelot-Baillet

Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes Pinot Noir 2017

Nose of ripe dark fruit, a touch of oak and some liquorice. The palate is much better, medium bodied with gorgeous fruit, good acidity and very silky tannins, good finish on dark cherries. 90-91

Nez de fruits noirs assez murs, un peu de boisé et de réglisse. La bouche plus pure et moins raccoleuse que le nez est superbe, belle acidité, tannins soyeux et belle finale sur des cerises noires.

I was born not far from there and reminds me of the sip I would steal from my Nonno's glass on a Sunday lunch "fuori porta"

Domaine des Terres Dorées (Jean-Paul Brun)

Côte de Brouilly Gamay 2018

Beautiful, brilliant light ruby red color. The first nose is intensely on aromas of small red fruits. On the palate, it is delicately fleshy, structured, muscular and elegant. A natural wine, with a real dense chew of fresh and juicy fruit. Open 30 minutes before tasting. The tannins are soft but persistent. To drink in 2/3 years.

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

The season for cocottes (in the northern hemisphere at least) is upon us. Starting the season off with a spinach soufflé, roasted zucchini, and a grilled burger, with sharp cheddar and mixed greens, on a brioche bun.
.
.
👁 As for the wine...This is a red wine with a deep ruby hue.
.
.
👃 This wine has a medium (+) intensity of developing aromas, including, primary notes of black cherry, blackberry, black cassis, plum, fig, licorice, and violets, secondary notes of cedar, nutmeg, vanilla, and tertiary notes of leather, earth, espresso, sweet tobacco.
.
.
👄 Palate is dry. It has medium (+) acidity, medium (+) body, medium alcohol, high tannins, and medium (+) intensity of flavors consistent with the aromas on the nose. The finish is medium (+).
.
.
This is a very good wine and may be consumed now but has potential for (and will improve with) further aging. It still has so much life in it and is not as expressive and integrated as I suspect it could be with more time.

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

I love Lewis Cab. Sweet eucalyptus and berries on the nose. Deep rich black fruit with structured tannins and black pepper on the finish. Medium plus acidity on this young pup. Built for quite a few more years. — 3 years ago

Happy Halloween Sweet Bloody Red 2019

🎃 Happy Halloween! 🎃This ghoulish sweet red blend features red cherry notes with a nice long finish. Actually pretty good for a sweet. The pumpkin spice Wensleydale cheese with cinnamon , ginger and nutmeg, on the other hand, went straight to the trash! I hope everyone has a spooktacular evening! — 3 years ago
