Pretty serious wine that, in retrospect, I should have decanted. Deep dark color in the glass with whiffs of pepper. Nicely balanced and very smooth despite near pnp. Very nice. — 5 years ago

Dom Pérignon

Brut Champagne Blend 2006

Classic oxidative style and delicious. Nose of toasted brioche and bruised apple. Entry with small bubbles. Brioche and creme brulee. Hint of Meyer lemon. Bubbles didn't compete with the rather nice palate which is starting to come out to play. I still think this still needs time but already solid on pop and pour. Enjoyed poolside as a toast to a nephew's high school graduation. I missed the 3 hour graduation ceremony in the sweltering heat..thought this would be a great way to make up for it. In a family of (mostly) self professed non-drinkers, this bottle was gone in NO TIME!! — 5 years ago

Fattoria La Massa

Toscana Sangiovese Blend 2016

Welcome to the long Holiday weekend. Tonight I have opened the 2016 Fattoria La Massa Toscana Super Tuscan. The blend is 65% Sangiovese, 25% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.

On the nose I am getting black plum, blackberry, black cherry, red currant, licorice, menthol, dried roses and dry earth.

The palate reveals the notes of tart cherry, plum, raspberry, red currant, violet, licorice and dry earth.

The wine is full bodied with a round velvety mouthfeel, medium + acidity and medium + fine mouth coating tannins that lead to a fresh long finish. Hopefully everyone has a fun holiday weekend planned and let it be a safe one. Nostrovia!

Rose et Or Côtes de Provence Rosé Blend 2018

Why does it always taste better in France? It’s that time of year again. As the temps rise, so does my desire for a great dry, crisp, nicely acidic rose from Provence. Perfect in day in Paris (except for the work) and now a great start to the evening with this extremely light salmon-colored beauty from one of my favorite producers, Chateau Minuty. White peach on the fruit and early strawberry on the acid. — 5 years ago

White flowers, Mandarin orange, dried lemon peel, dried lime zest, cream and pastry crust. Evolves into candy cap mushroom, wet leaves, wet stone, super high acidity. Like to see this one evolve. — 5 years ago

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Clear, pure medium ruby in the glass. Refined elegance in a bottle. There’s just something about being a standard bearer year in and year out. Consistency is a big part of that and Jordan is nothing if not consistently excellent. Up front, there’s expressive black fruit on the nose and it’s joined by tea, oak, and dry earth. Beautifully balanced acidity and velvety in the mouth. And of course, that Alexander Valley fruit. It’s distinctly not Napa but it’s always so good. Cranberry, cherries, and cigars on the palate. There’s more understated oak and even a touch of citrus. This is still just a wee baby but so approachable now, but you just know it has so many more years to go. Every time I open a Jordan, in that moment, I feel as if it can’t get any better. — 5 years ago

Black Chicken Napa Valley Zinfandel 2017

Dark purple in color with a wide reddish rim.

Fruity nose of sweet strawberries, raspberries, cherry pie, wood, licorice, spices, dried fruits, coffee, fresh popcorn, cloves, herbs, chocolates, mocha and black pepper.

Full bodied and bold with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and fruity on the palate with blueberries, dried raspberries, wood, licorice, earth, spices, light vanilla and peppercorn.

Medium plus in finish with soft tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a very enjoyable Zinfandel from Napa Valley. Well balanced and fruit forward with mild complexity and a nice mouthfeel. Not as spicy as I excepted.

Good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up (2 hours).

Still young and needs another 5 to 10 years in the bottle to mature properly.

I paired it with a charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.

14.5% alcohol by volume.
