Valbuena 5° Ribera del Duero Tempranillo Blend 2010

New vintage release tasting at Vega Sicilia in Ribera del Duero. The 2015 Unico presented an elegant profile, while the 2020 Valbuena showcased a bolder character. Traditionally, Unico is known for its power and structure, whereas Valbuena tends to be the more refined and elegant wine. Staff assured me it is not a reversal in winemaking techniques but rather a juxtaposition of their respective vintages. — a month ago

Classic, full bodied and structured GR rioja. High acid, still some unresolved tannin. Food wine. — 4 days ago

Reserva Cune Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2018

Blend of 85% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacha, Graciano & Mazuelo, was first wine winery ever produced, aged 18 months in 225L barrels. Deep Ruby color with aromas of fruit, earthy forest floor and woodsy notes. On the palate flavors of blackberry and plum with cedar, tobacco, leather and smoky notes. Fine chalky tannins, medium+ finish ending with fruit, tobacco, toasty cedar and earthy mineral character. Nice now! Good value! — 16 days ago

Imperial Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2016

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2016 Reserva pours a deep ruby/purple with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe and tart red and black fruits: black cherry, tobacco, cocoa, dill, vanilla and associated warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. This is a textbook, modern leaning and clean version of Rioja Reserva. Drink now through 2046. — 2 months ago
