Deep, dark and contemplative. Fresh and lively nose, but the fruit is quite restrained and serious. Black cherry, prune, vanilla bean and black pepper with dusty, astringent tannins. Long dry finish of hay, dried herbs and some of that bitterness. Drinking it on the cooler side. Feels right to sip this while listening to Sketches of Spain. — a month ago

Great, but the 2018 better - a little more horsepower. — 20 days ago
This tasty 5 year old Tempranillo from Vega Sicilia & Rothschild, is still young and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly.
Showing red and black fruits with earth, wood, spices, peppercorn, chocolates, tobacco, graphite and dark coffee.
Complex and interesting. Rich and fruit forward. A modern take on Rioja.
Better than their Classico version, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years.

Holy smokes this is good! My expectations were modest due to my stereotyping its Santa Clara County provenance, but I stand corrected. This is apparently an old-vine blend featuring about 50% Zin and a mix of Carignane and Mataro (Mourvèdre) to round it out. The purity of the black and red berries on the nose is remarkable. A bit of crushed stony earth. In the mouth, there’s tremendous flavor concentration but with an athletic mouthfeel that balances nice acids and super-soft tannic support. Great length. Color me duly impressed. Shoulda got more. 14.5% alcohol thank you very much. — 14 days ago
