Stunning bottle! Far less dark and brooding than 2006, the uber rare 2000 Montepulciano is elegant, seamless and impeccably detailed. It’s layered with crazy depth of aromatics that soar flaunting BBQ spice, espresso, dried flowers and red fruit. It has off the charts complexity and a wild untamed nature to its expression that is as intriguing as it comes. The palate is precise, pure and balanced with a stunningly elegant texture and incredible length. Masterful wine. — 2 years ago
A striking nose of dark fruits, leads to a pungent palate and high quality overall structure. It’s wild and untamed, tastes like some high quality wine making in a fairly extracted style. Provocative - could divide opinion. — 4 years ago
Took 20 minutes and then! Whammo! Nose is wild and untamed, red berry fruit, complex, feral and wonderful, olives and flowers, wild mint. gorgeous, supple, olivey, high acid, very soft yet intense, nose is awesome now with air, herbs, mints and so complex and juicy, really lifted and bright, juicy and elegant and so so supple. tannins are a bit hard and angular and maybe more age will help the wine. I was wrong! Air smoothed it all out. has that old cote rotie nose, wow. juicy and clean and sappy and pure. — 10 months ago

I was delighted to taste the 2015 Château-Chalon together with proprietor and winemaker Hélene Berthet at this iconic winery. An untamed powerhouse reflecting the warm vintage, it bursts from the glass with enticing aromas of walnuts, almonds, hazlenuts, dried apples, dried peach, crushed flowers, dried lemon peel, hay and a pinch of cumin spice. The palate boasts an off the charts richness and expands vertically, revealing layer after layer of concentrated dried fruits and a beautiful nuttiness, concluding with a bold and powerful finish. This is a world-class Vin Jaune capable of long term bottle aging. — a year ago
The 2018 Beauséjour Héritiers Duffau-Lagarrosse is a huge wine that is going to need a number of years to come into its own. A wine of unreal concentration and pure power, the 2018 takes over all the senses with its commanding presence. Black cherry, chocolate, licorice, gravel, cured meat and cloves all scream out of the glass. This wild, untamed Saint-Émilion needs cellaring. I imagine it will still be a spectacular wine many decades from now. As was the case from barrel, the typically imposing tannins are nearly buried by the sheer concentration of the fruit. Bouquet of citrus, rocks and spring meadow. Palate opens with a spritz of mouth puckering lemon and adds apple cider, baking spice, marzipan, white flowers and fennel to the mix. Bangin’ but could use a few years for the raging untamed acidity to settle down. Note—this is actually mostly Gros and Petit Manseng in case you’re a stickler for indigenous Basque grapes — 4 years ago

Dense but vibrant, this is Napa cab with an old world sensibility, lots of cassis and tobacco and leather and all sorts of left bank Bordeaux kind of stuff going on, plus some violets and forest floor notes lending a bit of an untamed edge. Tannins integrated but still making their presence felt, fairly tightly wound core of brambly berries, anise and cocoa — a month ago
