Serena Palazzolo

Sauvignon Blanc 2019

Ronco del Gnemiz Serena Palazzolo Sauvignon 2019. Plenty of varietal character with lime, boxwood, gooseberries, elderberries and kiwi fruit with an oyster shell minerality in the background giving complexity and dimension. The palate is driven by a linear and persistent acidity that is amped up on the treble and focused through the mid palate with a solid finish. As an entry level wine there is no denying this is an overachiever.
Paired with seared Pike Perch with a rough potato mash and a simple sauce made with reduced creme (creme double) flavoured with plenty of lemon and dill.

Pikes Wines

Hills & Valleys Clare Valley Riesling 2018

Estate situated in the quaint Polish Hill sub region of South Australia’s Clare Valley. Brothers Andrew & Neil Pike established Pikes in 1984 and continue to manage today. Pale lemon with pronounced aromas of citrus & stone fruits adding floral notes. On the palate flavors of lemon/lime, peach & pineapple with honey and toasty biscuit notes. Medium+ finish ending with wet stone character. Very Good, some bottle age will benefit. — 7 years ago

Sakana dinner 11/18/21 with Wilson/Mabel. What a wine! Deep golden color more akin to older Sauternes and a honeyed floral nose laced with acidic tones. Caressing stimulating lively texture that dances effortlessly on palate but still with sense of weight. Long overly finish. Matched the courses except for the Sanma Pike Mackerel where somehow it highlighted the fishiness. Otherwise it simply melted in and added to all the different flavors. Easily beat out Wu sake and dry Grand Cru Riesling. Found the perfect wine for the Omakase! — 5 years ago

Joh. Jos. Prüm

Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Spätlese Riesling 2017

Delectable Wine
9.3

White peach and mango are wreathed in heliotrope and honeysuckle, accompanied by a hazy hint of yeastiness and fermentative “stink” familiar from youthful wines at this address. The midpalate impression frees itself entirely from any haziness, delivering floral profusion and a luscious abundance of fruit utterly transparent to stony, smoky and mouthwateringly marine nuances. “It seems to be a particularly good year for Zeltinger,” observed Katharina Prüm, noting that this particular wine made significant qualitative strides in its first nine months. I can’t wait to witness what lies in store that many years or more down the pike! (David Schildknecht, Vinous, January 2020) — 6 years ago

Simpatico Single Vineyard Shiraz 2015

There’s a unique spice profile that marks Marius Shiraz. I do love it. Long long finish, tannin has a nice savoury grip balanced with dark black and red fruits. Florals in both flavour and smell, so much going on. A big step up from the 2014 Simpatico. Roger Pike has called it a day (https://rogerpike.com.au/news/), and at this point without any clear succession or sale 2019 will be his last vintage :( — 8 years ago
