Sunday nite with my wife and soulmate. She chose one of her faves to compliment our dinner.. always a strong presentation, not as present as the 16 vintage. It’s extracted, but doesn’t display the poise and grace that we have become accustomed to with this bottling. Given the price, I won’t purchase more than the 3 bottles that I have. — 4 years ago

The rest of the grub was healthy, but we always shit the bed in some way, shape or form 😀

Château Loupiac-Gaudiet

Loupiac Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2003

Vintage 2003 | I find this Loupiac wine incredible good. While aging it keeps a fresh character, not showing age. It has a mesmerizing apricot smell and awesome balance. Really a gem in the cellar that gives instant joy when opening a bottle. Like this september Sunday when I made a Reine Claude Plums Crumble. A marriage made in heaven. — 4 years ago

C.V.N.E. (Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España)

Imperial Gran Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2004

Last Sunday lunch with Roast Lamb. A 20 year old Rioja fitted the bill nicely. A blend of 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo. Aged in new French and American oak for 24 months. Aromatics of tobacco leaf, plum, ashphalt and a bit of tar. A medicinal note the following night. The palate is medium to full bodied with berry, plum and liquorice. Resolved Tannins - quite fluid. This was Wine Spectators No. 1 wine for 2013 and now drinking at its peak but could go on for another 5 years on the evidence of this superb wine. — 9 months ago

Bodega Matarromera

Crianza Ribera del Duero Tempranillo 2017

I had dismissed this wine a couple of years ago; I thought it was a little week, thought I could find better value elsewhere. To my surprise, my good friend brings this bottle to Easter Sunday Diner, and turned out to be one of the best vintages I’ve tried. Fuller body, richer, and composed. Cheers to trying bad wines again. — 4 years ago

Oh baby and I don’t mean maybe - winner winner chicken dinner - with the WNH gang on a Sunday night Italian IGT tasting via super Tuscan - this wine became commercially available wine in 1968 and since then it has risen quickly in fame - the 2015 as well as the 2016 are getting ridiculous scores from critics - like Bordeaux first growth scores - 97 plus from all - yes it a baby and as such I double decanted - i have more and I have much older vintages so this was my attempt to see what the hype was

Well the hype is real - patience is rewarded - 4 hour decant and every glass got better - in hour six this was incredible and went from a 9.5 to the 9.7 I gave it - 85% cab with 15% CF - reminds me of a great Bordeaux or great Napa blend like Continuum maybe a 2010 vintage as far as taste but leaves there and goes further - chiseled tannins integrated in a rich supple deep ruby color pushing red blue and black fruits elegantly- this could easily go another 30-40 years - and it will get better - in ten years this is 9.8 or higher - my face is broken from smiling so much!
