Pooley

Pinot Noir 2018

My 2nd last 2018 Pooley Pinot Noir. Pale Ruby in colour, tawny shades almost transparent. The colour appears to have become paler with age - a characteristic I haven’t seen before. On the palate evidence of whole bunch in the ferment - herbal, stalky amid the red fruits. The pale colour belies the palate intensity. Coal River is becoming part of Tasmanian Pinot Royalty. — 4 days ago

Tolpuddle Vineyard

Tasmania Chardonnay 2015

See note on Delectable 187 weeks ago. This is my last bottle and it is superb. With age this wine has developed more stone fruit (white peach) and less citrus notes. Perfect balance with French Oak and a creamy leesy influence. As HH said “100% Malolactic fermentation but it doesn’t show “. Ticks all the boxes of an excellent modern day new world Chardonnay. Grapes are shipped in a refrigerated container from the Coal River Tasmania to the Adelaide Hills where the wine is made at Shaw and Smith (the owner of Tolpuddle). — 2 months ago

Tasmania Riesling 2016

Yet another grape that does well in Tasmania - Riesling. White florals. The palate is round and developed with muted acid. Drinking at its peak. — 3 months ago

Haven’t had many Riesling from Tasmania but the few I’ve had have been quite good - I know Pinot Noir plantings are quite abundant but how about Riesling

@David White Thanks for the compliment David. Bay of Fires continues to be an excellent producer of Pinot Noir.

Pinot Noir 2017

Rich and mouth filling. Spices, red and black fruits. Medium bodied with medium plus intensity. Coats the palate. Fermentation with 40% whole bunches. A classic Tasmanian Pinot. Very good but a point or two behind their stellar 2015. 98 points and Top 100 Wines of 2020 from James Halliday. — 2 months ago

Home Hill

Estate Tasmania Pinot Noir 2017

Notes from May 2023 still apply. Voluptuous is the word. No less than 4 Trophies on the Australian Show Circuit from perhaps the most southerly vineyard in Australia in the Huon Valley. Rich, mouth filling and delicious. This is the regular Estate bottling - the Reserve is even more impressive. — 3 months ago

Devil's Corner

Tasmania Pinot Noir 2022

Pale ruby in color; cherries, hibiscus, and black tea on the nose; high acidity; low tannins; tastes like cranberries, pomegranates, red currants, and wet gravel with a long finish. — 4 months ago

Butcher's Hill Pinot Noir 2018

Such a vibrant Pinot! Visited in 2019 and brought this home, still very fresh and juicy, but lots of layers and complexity with a slightly herbaceous mid-palette. Divine! — 2 months ago

Eddystone Point

Pinot Noir

This is becoming my great everyday quaffer with the 2022 rated 95pts by Decanter World Wide Awards DWWA plus Huon Hook (real review) also gave it 95 pts. It’s same stable as Tasmanian Bay of Fires PN
It’s about $US 30 so excellent value rated up there with $150 Burgundies

I trust Decanter, but then I’m British by birth, so consider me biased.

@Ron R I’ve been married to an English lass for near on 60 yrs so I am probably biased as well but Decanter has long been my go to guide as has Jancis R 😀
