Maté Brachetto 2017

Dry, still Brachetto is a fantastic idea (and 👌🏻 with pasta and red sauce). Maybe I’m just a sucker for word association, but I’m detecting a strong Rooibos tea character from this one (the vineyard name is “Mate”) along with red fruit, earth, licorice, sage. Nice zippy acidity. Med/body. Like Yerba Mate, has fine, grippy tannins and a slightly bitter but not unpleasant finish. — 8 days ago

Langhe Nebbiolo 2018

Provides the stereotypical essence of Nebbiolo . Sottomano, to me is one of the best producers of Nebbiolo in Barbaresco. Plenty of cherry, underbrush and dried roses and violets. Ample tannins are matched by plenty of acidity. — 5 months ago

Barolo Nebbiolo 1978

78 Sottimano Barolo. Made by Andrea's father, I think. No vineyard designation. Must be a blend. Still lovely but past it's prime. Funk and fruit, tar, iodine, ample acidity, resolved tannins. — 2 years ago

Fausoni Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2016

Delectable Wine

The 2016 Barbaresco Fausoni is another superb wine in this lineup of 2016 Barbarescos from the Sottimano family. Bright floral and citrus overtones give the 2016 a vibrant, chiseled feel. Sweet red/purplish berry fruit, blood orange, spice, menthol rose petal and lavender are some of the many notes that flesh out in this super-expressive, mid-weight Barbaresco from Sottimano. Aromatically lifted, dense on the palate and also very structured, the 2016 is a very complete Fausoni. The 2016 finishes with tremendous persistence and a classic sense of austerity that is compelling. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, November 2019) — a month ago

Cotta Vigna Brichet Barbaresco Nebbiolo 1996

Dark and smoky, needed lots and lots of air, but really pleasant once it opened up. Black cherry, mocha, cigar. — 22 days ago
