Langhe Nebbiolo 2015

J. Kim
8.9

There is a slight misalignment between the fruit and phenolic ripeness, also a mismatch between the oak and the terroir, but it is still an authentic, genuine Langhe Nebbiolo. Wide range of aromatic nuances and dynamic expression with authority. Less polished than Roagna and less subtle than Cascina delle Rose but those three are of similar mold. A relaxed style of winemaking that is complete opposite of producers like Albino Rocca, Bruno Rocca and Sottimano who have a perfectionist approach, — 6 years ago

Currá Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2016

This wine has a pale ruby hue trending towards garnet with pronounced aromatic intensity of morello cherry, wild strawberry, pomegranate, black licorice, fennel, rose, morel mushroom, nutmeg, star anise, vanilla bean, clove, and tobacco nutmeg notes.

The flavors are consistent with the nose. This wine is dry, with medium(+) acidity and high, chalky tannins, high alcohol, and a long, elegant finish.

Talk about an iron fist in a velvet glove! We’re loving it! 🥂

@Jay Kline Good call - no doubt it will improve with time, softening and integrating the high tannins. We’ll have to be patient on the next bottle. ⏰

Cotta Vigna Brichet Barbaresco Nebbiolo 1996

Dark and smoky, needed lots and lots of air, but really pleasant once it opened up. Black cherry, mocha, cigar. — 4 years ago

Followed up Sottimano with this. Smoother and should probably have been first however paired nicely with full dinner. — 6 years ago

Maté Brachetto 2022

Popped and poured. The 2022 “Maté” is 100% Brachetto from a 2-ish acre vineyard in Treiso. The wine pours a striking pale ruby color; almost rosé-like. Medium- viscosity with no staining of the tears. Some slight tartrates on the last glass. On the nose, this is super floral right now with orange blossom, raspberries, alpine herbs and crushed gravel. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose and finishes with a mineral and floral driven flourish. A perfect pairing with a warm fall day with a light lunch at Via Farina. Drink now. — 6 months ago

Basarin Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2016

Had a great nose, very tight even after being open for an hour. Good acidity and strong tannins still. Lovely fruit and rose flavors. Probably should’ve waited another few years… — 2 years ago

Barolo Nebbiolo 1978

78 Sottimano Barolo. Made by Andrea's father, I think. No vineyard designation. Must be a blend. Still lovely but past it's prime. Funk and fruit, tar, iodine, ample acidity, resolved tannins. — 7 years ago
