Jurassic Park Vineyard Old Vines Chenin Blanc 2017

Wow! Pure summer in a glass...who drinks rose..any rose..when this Chenin Blanc is available. Utterly crushable..lemon, lime, yuzu...capable of removing a couple coats of enamel with the electric acidity. Low ABV..no noticeable oak. Kicking myself that I only bought 2. In the running for bargain of the year! — 9 days ago

Todos Santa Ynez Valley Syrah Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

I thought that this was going be much better than it was. A bit of a disappointment (a little bit of a rut here wine-wise here in the last few days). This wine has a great nose. Floral, herbs, hint of tobacco leaf, pepper, bacon, raspberry and kirsche. But the entry is a little bit metallic and flat, reminiscent of the nose. A little muted. The finish is a little bit tart and acidic and fades rather fast. Out of balance. Not really all that enjoyable and probably think this one would have done much better 1-2 years ago or perhaps maybe in a dumb phase? — 17 days ago

That’s the entry level bottle, try the other ones, haven’t had a disappointing bottle yet. Never tried this one

Wonderful aromatics! Brings you in with bacon fat, black peppercorn, charcoal grilled raspberries and muddled blackberries. However, the palate was way off here...quite muted and flabby. Possibly flawed, or in a very odd dumb phase.

Tierra Santa Ynez Valley Sangiovese

Garnet colored. Smoked meats and pine resin on the nose. A bit green on the initial palate giving way to sweeter notes of cassis, tobacco and black pepper. Tannins are still quite prominent. Good but a little disjointed. — 3 days ago

In Grateful Memory Of Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Thought this bottle made sense today 09/11. I was across the street from the WTC. Lost many dear friends I did business with, partied with, worked out with, and loved. Sad day. 🙏 — 5 days ago

This breaks my heart. It is a sad day and will always be. So sorry for your loss. 😢

The Paring

Santa Ynez Valley Red Blend 2014

Apparently Jonata fruit that is baby or slightly off the value plot. Makes this a relative bargain. It was tight and not showing much at first. Tasted over 3 nights it got more expressive. — 14 days ago

Stolpman Vineyard Grenache 2017

So interesting! Has this strong fresh green note that plays with how floral it is, like you’re smelling all parts of a rose garden. I feel like that might be from harvesting early for Santa Barbara? Super pretty light cherry notes that you might predict. Ethereal and lithe. Elegant restraint. Completely drinkable. — 7 days ago

I don’t drink much Chardonnay. This was a very pleasant one. High acidity, citrus peel on the nose and great structure. Some evidence of new oak, but nothing over the top. — 20 days ago

El Desafio de Jonata Santa Ynez Valley Red Bordeaux Blend 2012

This wine is locked up. Initially this was displaying a lot of blueberry muffin influence on the nose with very stiff oak. Entry has a hint of vanilla, blackberry, blueberry, wildflowers. Middle is where this one starts to get a little dry. Oak splinters. Very guarded finish. The best years of this wine are ahead of it. After 2 hours in decanter, this one got quite a bit more savory. Some grilled ribeye notes, more blackberry character, pepper, but still quite a bit of astringent oak here. I really think this one will be close to a 95 at peak maturity, which is definitely not now. Give this one another five years. — 17 days ago

My second favorite Jonata on the table today. Needed every bit of the decant it got. Smoky on the nose with cedar, peppercorn, and white pepper (showing its little bit of cab franc notes). Dusty and chalky on the palate. Grilled dark fruits, plum, cassis, and herbs. Tannic on the finish. Needs a few years or a 6+hr decant.

La Sangre de Jonata Ballard Canyon Syrah 2014

Give this another 2-3yrs and I think this is a 9.4-9.5 wine. Aromatics alone are worth the price of entry. Smoked brisket, teriyaki Jerky, black peppercorn, and rhubarb pie. A balance between savory and funky Syrah style with a dash of spicy red fruit to add complexity. Iron, bacon fat and herbaceous notes accompany ripe black cherries and fig. Great stuff. — 17 days ago

"Love You Bunches" Carbonic Sangiovese

The color is amazing - light, ruby. Dark fruit and blueberry on the nose, drinks smoothly, perfect chilled. A little earthy, funky. Starts with some acidity and then disappears. Slightly effervescent. — 4 days ago
