Rattlesnake Hills, Columbia Valley

Analemma

Mosier Hills Estate Mencía 2017

175 cases made, obscure Spanish variety, perhaps the only US producer. Purple, light to moderately extracted pigment. Butter, barrel smoke and cherry aromas. Cherry, red berry and lactic flavors, tar and dill seed on finish, with lots of acidity and fine-grained seed and skin tannins. Age worthy, though tannins may resist easy recourse to decanting. A wine worth seeking out, tasty, unusual. I wish I had another bottle of this. — 10 days ago

Michaud

Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

This Horse Heaven Hills Cabernet is vinted in a different style from the Michauds’ other offerings. It has medium tannins, just enough to give it a slightly chewy structure. Pepper spices greet the palate up front, followed by bright blueberry fruits. The finish has a touch of creaminess to it. — 15 hours ago

Painted Hills Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Nice WA Cab. Let this one breathe a little bit and it opens up a little bit. Dark cherry nose with some herb undertones. — 5 days ago

Seven Hills

Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

Solid garnet in color. The nose was fresh despite the age; floral with red fruit emanating from the glass. Medium bodied with red currant, wild strawberry, white pepper and vanilla. The finish drew small rings of smoke and flint but was relatively short. — 7 days ago

Passing Time

Horse Heaven Hills Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

We had the 2014 Vintage on 3/29-30/20. There were tastes of blackberry, blueberry, oak and some chocolate. A big full bodied wine. Fruit forward and a good representative of a Washington Cab. — 7 days ago
