Prensal Blanc

François Chidaine

Bouchet Vouvray Chenin Blanc 2014

Le Bouchet is an amazing value Chenin Blanc grown within the Vouvray appellation, but vinified across the river in Montlouis. It was made by Francois Chidaine with a vintage of 2014 and an ABV of 13.5%. It was $25 at @thomasliquors 🙌🙌

👁 It has a deep golden hue.

👃 On the nose, this wine has a medium(+) intensity of developing aromas, including notes of desiccated apple, bruised yellow pear, lemon curd, chalk, wet stone, dried white flowers, and honeycomb. The aromas are concentrated.

👄On the palate this wine is dry with notable residual sugar (possibly off-dry), it has medium(+) acidity, a medium(+) body due to the richness of the texture, medium alcohol, and a medium(+) intensity of flavors consistent with the nose, although with brighter citric influences. The finish is medium.

This wine has complexity; it's concentrated; it's for the cerebral type. I could see it pairing well with a variety of salads and cheeses and/or a pork roulade; we’re pairing it tonight with an herbed, grilled chicken, grilled bell peppers, and roasted asparagus.

Château d'Epiré

Savennières Chenin Blanc 2018

Military Chenin - first rank straight faced silver skinned Savennieres without any sense of humor - not even a smirk.

Accents of pear, lime, jasmine flowers and smoking flint. Honest and transparent.

You can taste the chalky porous rock filters feeding the vines.

Bold austere flavors of lemon and crisp pear and white pepper with a little bitter bite of white flowers just at the end.

Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2018

Blend of 95.2% Sauvignon Blanc & 4.8% Viognier, pale lemon with aromas of ripe stone and tropical fruits with citrus and floral notes, nice phenolics. On the palate fresh fruit flavors of melon, pear and apple with grapefruit/lemon citrus wrapped in lively acidity, medium+ length ending with creamy citrus texture. Very Nice! — 5 days ago

Bosco del Merlo

Turranio Lison-Pramaggiore Sauvignon Blanc 2019

This pale yellow wine has a fragrant nose with some grassy, herbal notes, although not as grassy as the Tiare. There is a nice floral element and some tropical fruit, too. The palate shows a great Sauvignon Blanc flavor profile - citrus, minerals, herbs - and an acidity which is pleasant enough without getting too crazy. I sometimes find Sauvignon to be a little much on the palate for my taste, but that is not the case with the Turriano. It is a very nice sip and wonderful match for rice or pasta dishes, especially those with an herbal flair to them. BTW, this wine is Friuli DOC. — 3 days ago

Illumination Sauvignon Blanc 2018

Today we visited the peaceful, tranquil vineyard and winery of @quintessawinery where years ago Augustin and Valeria Huneeus, of Chile 🇨🇱, set their sights on one of Rutherford’s gem properties, offering diverse soils, aspects, and four distinct microclimates all on the same property😍 🍇

Valeria, the viticulturist of the family, chose to farm this land organically and biodynamically. Quintessa more recently pursued and obtained formal certification. While the Huneeuses remain intimately involved, albeit to a lesser degree, the excellence of these wines and winemaking practices are carried forward under currrent winemaker Rebekah Wineburg. @postandvine

Here we have a flight that includes two Illumination white blends comprised of Sauvignon Blanc Musque, Sauvignon Blanc, and Semilllon varieties.

These blends are reminiscent of a Bordeaux Blanc from Pessac-Leognan region. These wines were fermented for various periods of time in a combination of concrete, stainless steel, acacia wood, and neutral oak vessels, lending dimension and complexity. These wines also underwent lees stirring, lending richness, weight, and creaminess. Just one year difference between these two wines and the result is noteworthy.

The 2018 is elegant, more restrained, and integrated, where as the 2019 is highly aromatic with florals 🌸 and tropical fruits such as melon, papaya, tart pineapple 🍍 . Both wines are approx 14% ABV and have bright acidity.

The name Illumination came from time spent in the vineyard, watching the sun illuminate the vines. The beautiful work on the label was inspired by the Book of Kells and stained glass, known to glow and shine with the luminescent sun. ☀️

@Bob Bath We love it here. We drove by the CIA, which brought back fun memories of attending your CMS Level 1 Course. I hope we can connect the next time we’re out here. Cheers!

Vini Viti Vinci

Bright ripe with a tang that reaches the way back sides of your tongue.

Smells of greens and yellows - Smokey green herbs and sliced yellow starfruit.

Has a fleshy, creamy texture sitting under sour tropical fruits - tastes like key lime pie and mango sorbet and candied Limoncello.

Collio Sauvignon Blanc 2019

This Sauvignon is tinted a very light gold, almost clear. The nose gives aromas more common to New World Sauvignon Blancs - grass, herbs, salinity. The grassiness is not, however, on par with, say, a New Zealand SB. It’s a little more restrained than that. On the palate, citrus minerality is the rule, with an extremely fresh acidity. The lemon-lime flavor comes back on the lengthy finish. Fish is a great pairing for this wine, something along the lines of a tuna salad or nicoise would be ideal.

Vouvray Chenin Blanc 2019

Delicious thick with low acid, apples, chamoy, and almost a lambec beer style funk. Even though I used to work in banking this one reminds me of that hipster girl that might skip a few showers and overcompensate with patchouly oil but watching her smile is like the sun rising and the curves make you want to buy a Lamborghini. Bright, and round in ways that defy Euclidean geometry. Very delicious. — a day ago

Amador County Chenin Blanc 2015

Alder Yarrow

With five and change years on it, this wine is beginning its transformation. What were bright and juicy lemon and quince in youth are starting to take on more steely, herbal notes as savory and saline elements come to the fore. The color, if anything is even more youthful than before, holding a greenish tinge along with its blonde highlights. Killer acidity still reigns supreme here for complete refreshment. Gonna save a bottle or two and see where it goes in another 5 years. — 10 days ago

Duchess Sauvignon Blanc 2019

Barrel aged, pale lemon with aromas of ripe stone and tropical fruits with citrus and floral notes, wonderful phenolics. On the palate fresh fruit flavors of melon, apricot and ripe apple with lemon citrus wrapped in lively acidity, medium+ length ending with creamy citrus mineral texture. Very Nice! Will benefit for short-term aging.
This Barrel aged Sauvignon Blanc is very multi-dimensional, exhibiting layers of fruit. Flavors of spicy pear and mango emerge from the creamy palate.
