Pallagrello Nero

Cusumano

Sicilia Nero d'Avola 2023

Light garnet color with a dark ruby core., Aromas of ripe black fruit, asphalt and fresh herbs. Flavors of blackberries, black plums, black tea, black pepper and dark figs. Touch of mint on the medium-plus finish. Firm chalky tannins and nicely balanced acidity. Complex, elegant and flavorful. Thanks for opening, Chris B! — 5 months ago

Saia Sicilia Nero d'Avola 2016

Wow. This wine evolved from a bit off-balanced spicy austere wine to a deep complex earthy wine with layers of dark fruit. This is why I love wine. There is a story underneath the surface. — 6 months ago

Il Nero di Casanova Toscana Sangiovese 2020

8.9

The winery’s entry level Sangiovese bottling. Aged 15 months in second-use French oak for 2020 vintage, it delivers a darker-fruited profile while preserving Sangiovese’s classic character. A versatile, crowd-pleasing choice and pairs especially well Northern Italian pasta dishes. — a year ago

Tenuta Regaleali Lamùri Nero d'Avola 2021

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2021 pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of black cherry purple flowers, and rocky earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, the finishes medium. Easy to enjoy with a variety of fare. Drink now through 2031. — a year ago

Memoro Primitivo Blend

Hubby had this one without me (!!). A cheap Italian blend for $13 but its quite delicious and complex. Interesting cider donut spice with cocoa and vanilla but also some basil and nutmeg. It’s a wild ride. Jealous that I missed it. — 5 months ago

Pithos Rosso Vittoria Nero d'Avola Frappato 2020

Popped in poured; no formal notes. The 2020 Pithos Rosso is, to my palate, a lovely Sicilian alternative to Beaujolais. Delicious, refreshingly fruity and just a touch wild. Sufficient structure to provide enjoyment for the near term, but I would just as well drink now. I really enjoy these wines. — a year ago
