A thick and juicy wine - easy to get into - hefty, with black cherry, dark berry blend, pinch of anise, pepper. Cherry skin tannins, with a zesty acidic overture.

I opened the 2019 vintage, a mere baby. I know. Pauillac is home to most of the first growths: Latour, Mouton-Rothschild and Lafite-Rothschild. This is a very well-made wine. It feels a smidge more new-world styled, fruit leading, but is so ballasted by the earth, the pencil lead, the shining wet-rock mineral notes. The nose is blackcurrant and blue plums even, with slight pepper and roses. The palate is so smooth—sanded down tannins. Granted, this had barely entered open-worthy territory, but it is showing a lot already and with air even more—the florals start to enter the picture. The already well-integrated tannins get silkier. This is an EXCELLENT wine. Interestingly, the Overture was a Napa touching on Bordeaux sensibilities, while the Pauillac was a Bordeaux wine touching on Napa vibes! — 2 months ago

There’s a lot to process here. Pours a burnished gold in the Glencairn. Unmistakably Medley/Wathen’s with that honeyed overture into clove giving way to German candied nuts and oranges. The high viscosity gives the effect of a weighted blanket to the palate; positively ensconcing. It’s hot but it’s 126.74 proof, so what do you expect? The finish is long and satisfying. Nose has strawberry, red apple slice, red currant bunch, ripe cherry and dry earth.

Palate has cherry, raspberry, orange pith, red apple peel, light green herbs with a light tannic grip.

What a color! Nice wine, plenty of fruit to please most palates, decent finish; fun blend of grapes!

For Opening Night our conductor Andris Nelsons is leading an all BEETHOVEN program (Overture to The Creatures of Prometheus, Piano Concerto No. 5 (Emperor) and Symphony No. 5) with one of our local treasures, Emanuel (Manny!) Ax on piano.

It's been a long time coming to get on the best manicured lawn in the Berkshires, 2020 saw a full withdrawal of the in-person season because of the pandemic.
