This wine is actually the Melnik 55
made from 100% Melnik grapes.
Smells like walking through a cherry orchard, with a mug of coffee in hand.
Mulberry, touches of vanilla, Italian coffee, the wine is of a hefty medium bodied well made wine, with a cocoa tannin overture, and pinch of acidity. A solid wine, — 4 years ago
I opened the 2019 vintage, a mere baby. I know. Pauillac is home to most of the first growths: Latour, Mouton-Rothschild and Lafite-Rothschild. This is a very well-made wine. It feels a smidge more new-world styled, fruit leading, but is so ballasted by the earth, the pencil lead, the shining wet-rock mineral notes. The nose is blackcurrant and blue plums even, with slight pepper and roses. The palate is so smooth—sanded down tannins. Granted, this had barely entered open-worthy territory, but it is showing a lot already and with air even more—the florals start to enter the picture. The already well-integrated tannins get silkier. This is an EXCELLENT wine. Interestingly, the Overture was a Napa touching on Bordeaux sensibilities, while the Pauillac was a Bordeaux wine touching on Napa vibes! — a year ago
Smells of blueberry scone
Light to medium with dried cranberry, cherry pie, eucalyptus sprig, more dried fruits - fig, watermelon.
A great mouthfeel with just a little.bitter vying for attention over the citrus acidity,
Classic twig and branch overture
Fantastic. — 3 years ago
There’s a lot to process here. Pours a burnished gold in the Glencairn. Unmistakably Medley/Wathen’s with that honeyed overture into clove giving way to German candied nuts and oranges. The high viscosity gives the effect of a weighted blanket to the palate; positively ensconcing. It’s hot but it’s 126.74 proof, so what do you expect? The finish is long and satisfying. Barrel 1; bottle 009/180. A fabulous pick from the Brown Water Enthusiasts. ✌🏽 ❤️ ✊🏽 — 4 years ago
One of the best California Syrahs. 3% Viognier. Basket pressed. Unfiltered, unfixed. Violets, black fruits, dried apricots. Overture of herbal spices, honey and cocoa. — 4 years ago
Nose has strawberry, red apple slice, red currant bunch, ripe cherry and dry earth.
Palate has cherry, raspberry, orange pith, red apple peel, light green herbs with a light tannic grip.
What a color! Nice wine, plenty of fruit to please most palates, decent finish; fun blend of grapes!
On the Lawn at Tanglewood this evening with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. For Opening Night our conductor Andris Nelsons is leading an all BEETHOVEN program (Overture to The Creatures of Prometheus, Piano Concerto No. 5 (Emperor) and Symphony No. 5) with one of our local treasures, Emanuel (Manny!) Ax on piano.
It's been a long time coming to get on the best manicured lawn in the Berkshires, 2020 saw a full withdrawal of the in-person season because of the pandemic. Now we're back with a very abbreviated season, limited capacity grounds and shed; we've returned, all celebrating the greatest orchestra in the world! — 4 years ago

Opus One Overture Red Blend N/V
Napa Valley, California, USA 🇺🇸
Overview
A second wine from Opus One Winery, Overture is crafted as a multi-vintage Bordeaux-style blend, mainly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with smaller portions of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. Unlike the estate’s grand vin, Overture blends across several vintages to achieve harmony, depth, and consistency. This wine edition includes 2014, 2015, and 2016, vintages that shows the elegance and complexity of extended barrel aging.
Aromas & Flavors
Nose: red currants, ripe cherry, and fresh red fruit, wrapped in earthy tones of mahogany, cocoa powder, and vanilla spice.
Palate: rounded and expressive, with plush dark fruit layered over subtle tobacco, cedar, and espresso. The oak influence creates warmth and complexity without overwhelming the fruit.
Mouthfeel
Medium-to-full-bodied, velvety in texture, with smooth tannins and a long, polished finish. The extended oak elevates its creaminess, while freshness keeps it balanced.
Winemaking & Style
Barrel-aged longer than the main Opus One lots, this wine achieves silky integration of fruit and oak. The flexibility of blending across vintages results in a wine of remarkable harmony and immediate drinkability, while still capable of short-term aging.
Food Pairing
Excellent with grilled ribeye, lamb shanks, duck breast, or mushroom risotto. Also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses or a dark chocolate finale.
Verdict
A luxurious, multi-vintage blend that captures the soul of Opus One in a more approachable, versatile package. Refined, elegant, and deeply satisfying, Overture is a wine to savor now or cellar briefly for added nuance.
