Recuero & Co, Mélangé Clairet, 2018 es un vino clarete mestizo sin sulfitos añadidos elaborado con uvas procedentes de viñedos históricos de Sierra de Gata (Villamiel, Cáceres) y de los antiguos territorios de Guzquía en Toledo con la variedad serrana ojo de liebre (30%), con la pinot noir de Toledo (60%) y otras.

La familia Recuero se dedica a la viticultura y a la elaboración de vinos desde 1873. Sus viñedos y bodega se encuentran en Villanueva de Alcardete, población situada en el centro de España, al Noreste de la provincia de Toledo. — a year ago

Pale pink/orange color, medium, slightly oily body with a prominent floral nose, with notes of orange blossom, slight baking notes and mandarin citrus, with a somewhat deep, underlying funk hidden in the background. Palate has prominent citrus, slightly underripe lemon and acidity from the start, with a slightly creamy finish with hints of watermelon rind and a subtle minerality that stays with you on a lingering finish. It’s very good, but I don’t know if it’s for all that often. — 2 years ago

Really nice red! Looks like a “Pinot”, but is more like a dry Cabernet. Maybe a little light and short, but has nice flavor to coincide with the earthy dryness. From Wine Insiders. Tasted 11 November 2022. — 2 years ago

“Ojo Gallo’, Castellano for ‘rooster eye’ (in other words, what the French call ‘oeil de perdrix’), hearkens back to the traditional clarete style of the region. This dark rosé (light red?) is a field blend of very old vines of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Bobal, Monastrell, Viura, Albillo and Malvasia co-fermented in cement and raised for 8 months in used barrels before bottling without added sulfur” — 3 years ago

We were introduced to some great Mexican wines a few months back when we explored Valle de Guadalupe in Baja California. Monte Xanic makes some excellent wines. This is their entry Bordeaux blend of fifty fifty Cab and Merlot. The Merlot comes from their higher, cooler valley (Valle de Ojo), the Cab from the warmer Valle Guadalupe. It made a very interesting wine. The dark red vibrant fruit upfront from the Merlot and the dark earthy lingering finish from the Cab. Both very much in sync with each other. — a year ago
