@Dave Newton was a big Napa player in the late 80’s-turn of the century. They were known for their “Unfiltered” Chard but made a solid Claret, an occasionally delicious and semi-gratuitous Chard and a top-notch Cab. Distribution down here in San Diego has been a little uneven. Think they are distributed by one of the big guys so that winery gets lost in a portfolio of 100+ wineries. Was pouring the Napa Chard btg for a spell and picked up a few cases of the Claret for a song but both have been 5 years or so ago. Also, a label change for them since then.

Azienda Agricola Le Ragnaie

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2013

Quality check on Le Raganie Brunello di Montalcino 2013 and what a showstopper, starting off a bit shy but evolves into a layered complexity with plenty of finesse, with four hours in the decanter its hard to raise your nose from the glass. Red, very vibrant fruit is backed up by dried spices and pronounced but balanced savoury complexity of forrest floor and crushed stones. A subtle volatile lift brings further complexity. Fresh palate with, fine grained tannins and a tactile sensation that brings the wine throughout its long finish. Not Brunello, its a trademark Ragnaie! — 7 years ago

The Puzzle Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Pouring this out is a joy as the aromas just immediately fill the room - a bouquet of scents. Chocolate, cigar, vanilla, and a ton of blackberry pie and baking spices Smells delicious. The color is a dark garnet, borders of red. Strong, large body with big tannins. Beautiful mocha and blueberry flavors. More of the vanilla. Loving this. — 3 years ago

Hommage à Jacques Perrin Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend

It is a beast of a wine and yet it is approachable. Tannic but sweet tannins, full bodied, black fruits, mineral with a super long finish. The leather, gamey, Forrest floor undercurrent is starting to develop but will need another 5 years. A hedonistic bomb. Will give you pleasure for another 10 to 15 years easy. — 6 years ago

Yountville Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Really big and bold, but as of 2024 the ‘18 vintage is still immature. It’s going to be beautiful and delicious though and hopefully smoothes out. Strong acidity and mouth watering tannins. There are lots of dark fruits mixed with some sour cherry and other tart red berries. Chocolate and spice, medium vanilla tannins. I’ll sit on my other bottles for a few more years. — 2 years ago

Continuum

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2014

Tim Mondavi’s master piece! This is my 2014 Continuum. One word: FANTABULOUS! Sage mountain vineyard in 2014 was incredible for cabernet! This is the best cab Ive had all year! Who says you dont always get what you pay for? 225 dollars of pure ecstasy in a glass! Wow. Fig newton dipped in grape jelly on the nose. Dark berries fill the palate followed by black pepper and dark chocolate . It is as velvety smooth as it gets. The oak and tree moss come through on the finish with a slight tingle on the corners of the lips and cheeks. The finish is dry and lingers with even more complexity! Cigar box, mineral rich soil, Black licorice, and grape jelly again! Goodness. I have been waiting on this one for a long time and I am so glad it is as good as I thought it would be. I just wish I had someone to share it with!!! — 4 years ago

The Puzzle Spring Mountain Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Blend

A tasty Napa Bordeaux blend, well made, slightly high toned and pushing the acidic side of the spectrum. That’s said, was quite enjoyable, but there are certainly others that are at least comparable if not better at this price point. — 6 years ago

17+/20 (92+/100) Аромат чернослива, черешни, шоколада и легкой нотой кожи. Тельное с высокой кислотностью и молодыми, но не грубыми танинами. Отлично! #capewine2018 — 8 years ago
