A well made clean and flavoursome Japanese whisky coming in at 50%ABV. An interesting story about the source of the water for the distillery which is near Mt Fuji. The purity of the water is always a key issue in the making of quality whisky. As the story goes the water used at Fuji Gotemba distillery is taken from 3 underground bores that tap into underground streams which are 100 metres deep. Analysis has shown that the water used today fell on Mt. Fuji as snow 50 years ago. — 5 years ago
Another great Howell Mt wine — 8 years ago
A solid producer year after year! Very juicy and light. Some whole cluster. Very likable and unoffensive. Touch bitter. Orange zest, more red fruit than dark. Cherry/Hint blackberry. Touch oregano. Lime. Crushed marble. Covers the back palate nicely. Lots going on here. I consider this a drink now wine 36 bucks and 13.5%. There are just a handful of Pinots which win me over at this price point. And this one is in the Burgh killer zone. If you like Pinot this is a winner @ San Diego Wine Co. — 8 months ago
👅 tastes like the perfect chuggable red after climbing to the top of Mt. Tallac on a hot summer day — 8 years ago
Tasted this alongside the Mt. Brave Cabernet Sauvignon from Mount Veeder. Both incredible wines but this one just had a bit more of a punch to it. Dark ruby purplish red. Insanely tight to start on the nose with some raspberries. Developed some earthy tones like truffles and mushrooms with a few hours in the glass. Not as fruity as the Mt. Brave and pretty tight with some austere mountain berries. Heavy tannins (8/10) and full bodied. Definitely needs some time to fully balance out. Long and dry finish. Very impressive and everything coats the glass. Drink from 2017 till 2036. — 10 years ago
Fore Please!…Now Drinking 2019 Bedrock Wine Co. Monte Rosso Vineyard Zinfandel.
In celebration of Scottie Scheffler’s 2022 Masters victory- let’s pair the Bedrock wine notes with Mr. Scheffler’s golf game!
Morgan Twain-Peterson(MT-P) writes: “this wine comes from a phenomenal block planted in 1886 on the midslope of the vineyard “.
Just so, Mr. Scheffler, being just 25 years old exemplifies great maturity. Scottie also maintained his elevated game this entire Masters week to capture his first major.
MT-P: “Though this site has always excelled, it looks particularly dialed in”.
Likewise Mr. Scheffler has always excelled at his craft of tournament golf. Since dominating junior golf events, to keeping his game dialed in since turning pro on the PGA tour, and especially this week at Augusta National.
Job well done Mr. Twain-Peterson.
Congratulations, and job well done also Mr. Scheffler! Okay — 4 years ago
Classically speaking, La Jota is my favorite Howell Mountain producer. I’ve tasted so many treasures from this producer in the 1985-2005 span here in the past few years. Beautiful integration and expression of Cabernets on volcanic soils at elevation. But what do I love most about Howell Mt wines at their best? - Their ability to smell like Howell Mt itself. Being a 2003 this wine finds itself in a good place now though I wish I had others to try again in 3-5 years — 8 years ago
The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Montecillo Vineyard is shaping up to be a jewel of a wine. This site on Mt. Veeder confers intense iron and ferrous notes that complement a savory, mineral-driven profile that is typical of Cabernets from these red mountain soils. Firm swaths of tannin frame the finish in a breathtaking, old school Cabernet Sauvignon that evokes memories of some of the most iconic wines made on Mt. Veeder. It is every bit that outstanding.
