So this one's not for the faint of heart. Extremely ripe style, heavy dark berries with a green note in there. Viscous and granular on the palate. Reminds me of Mollydooker. Unsubtle, but good stuff. — a year ago

Miss Molly Sparkling Shiraz 2017

Surprisingly pleasant and fun. Had it twice and drank it down both times. Cooled it a bit first. — 4 years ago

Giaconda

Estate Vineyard Chardonnay

Winner of the night from the Legend Imports wine dinner at Peasant featuring a variety of beautiful wines from Australia that are not mollydooker penfolds or yellowtail.

This wine was described as Australian Montrachet and boy was that right. Anyone tasting blind would’ve picked burgundy.

Delicious.

Padthaway Shiraz 2000

2000 Vintage. 14.5% Alcohol. Winemakers Sparky and Sarah Marquis before they started their own Mollydooker brand. Still hanging in with great fruit and bouquet. Lovely and bringing back memories of our vacation in the McLaren Vale area. — 6 years ago

Aubert

Larry Hyde & Sons Chardonnay 2017

Infanticide. Tasty, tasty infanticide. Even though the acidity here was huge, and this wine was tightly coiled, you can tell a sign of excellent things to come. The nose is dried herb, Asian pear, mango. Entry is acidic, salinity, herbal, limestone. Fruit showed in the middle after the tongue stopped burning. Pear, kiwi, guava. Finishes rather restricted. Good balance. Structure is there. This needs about 2 years in bottle but I recorked the second half to slow ox.... Day 2: ... now I think I'm gonna do the Mollydooker shake and slow ox to all of these younger Aubert. What a difference. Nose is much more tropical. Dense. Notes were pretty much the same, but very present. Acidity in check. Wonderful finish. Hint of oak in the finish. Glad I saved 2/3 of the wine for day 2! Now I see why they recommend double decanting! And I would add a 24 hour slow ox to that! — 7 years ago

@Ryan Vento : I’ve never decanted champagne but I’m not against it. I know people who have with positive results. I’ve also heard from people in town who did a tasting with Olivier that he got upset when people asked if he would call Krug an “oxidative” style champagne. Certainly seems to me that it is 🤷🏼‍♂️. Different strokes for different folks.

I would absolutely decant if it needed it. I have no problem with that at all. Depends on the Champagne. Cheers!

I always thought that decanting 'champagne' was reserved only for athletes who were spraying it all over themselves in the locker room after a big win? I think if I decanted a Champagne, I would really have to know the ins-and-outs of that particular Champagne before deciding to do so.

Spoto Wines

Oakville Cuvée Christiane Red Blend 2016

For a 2016 Spoto, this one did well. Of course, opening and Mollydooker shaking this one 7 hours beforehand likely did this one extremely well. Youthful black cherry, blackberry and dried herb. Middle and finish still has oak influence which is quite substantial. Really nice wine which will age nicely. — 7 years ago

Two Hands

Bella's Garden Barossa Valley Shiraz 2005

Catching up on old notes. Drank this magnum with extended family on Christmas Eve. A rich ripe full bodied style showing plum and chocolate. Two Hands seems like one of those labels like Mollydooker which are better known in the USA than in Australia. — 4 years ago

Velvet Glove McLaren Vale Shiraz 2018

The 2018 Mollydooker ‘The Velvet Glove’ Shiraz is a utterly sensational bottling that rivals any wine of its kind. Aged in all new American oak, this shows a gorgeous bouquet from blueberry pie to espresso grounds, graphite and toasty oak tones that all impress. The palate is deep and utterly seamless. A massive core of blue and dark fruits collide with white pepper, minerals, firm tannins and a light dusting of salinity. While obviously big, this has a weightless quality and wonderful verve. Wonderful to enjoy now, this outstanding Shiraz will provide drinking enjoyment for at least another fifteen years. But why wait? Drink 2021-2038- 98 — 5 years ago

Nuts & Bolts Syrah 2014

High powered juice but silky smooth and highly aromatic. Cherries, blueberries and spice. Rich and dark in the glass, the high alcohol is nicely balanced and this reminds me of Velvet Glove from Mollydooker, but you get three for the price of one with this Paso Robles Syrah. — 7 years ago
