Dom Bliskowice, Canva 2019. Blend of Regent and Cabernet Cortis, 2 hybrid varietals. This is a funny one. The winery is based in the city center of Warsaw but their plot is located on the slopes of Kazimierz Dolny, a medieval city 70 miles south of Warsaw, on the side of the Wisła River which flows through Warsaw. On the label you can see a contemporary art rendition of the famous warsaw mermaid, which is the symbol of the city. Statues of the mermaid can be found in several iconic locations of the city and are shown on every bus, tram and taxi driving around. It's a staple of Warsaw and seeing it on the label of this bottle tells the story of this wine being intricately connected with Warsaw and its rich culture and history. The nose is very Cabernet-adjacent with notes of cherry, bell pepper, black pepper and a bramble thing too. The palate is well made, with good acid drive, nice cherry and bramble berry notes, good width and rather powerful, drying tannins in the rear. They leave a drying layer over the finish that go well with the cherry and bramble berry notes and carry on for a good while. Some bitter notes and green notes pop up in the rear. It's a serious wine, with structure, a bit austere as it is currently, but which will certainly cruise in the cellar for a while, and eventually open up and shine with its lovely black fruit notes. Serious, austere, built for lasting but also fun and full of hope: a bit like the city it was born in. 👌 — 3 months ago
Perfect Italian rose! Stone fruit and strawberry driven with a bone dry palate. Beach sipper with a mermaid marionette label to match the vibe! Rose gold color illuminates the glass. Beautiful! — 4 years ago
Dark black purple. Dark currant with a hint of chocolate taste. Nowadays, I guess you can find a wine label about anything, like. mermaid, prisoner, any animals, sisters, cars, but on a freak show? I have to ask why? Wine was good! — 5 years ago
Still remember the incredible purity, after drinking it a few days after new years. Lemon curd, brioche, and a little bit of tropical fruit. It opened up as it went along, so the racy acidity level doubt and the mermaid liked it after a bit. Rating below is purely my own — 4 years ago
