La Sangre de Jonata Ballard Canyon Syrah 2013

Must buy & age
Parker 96 review

Cofermented with 2% Viognier, the Syrah-dominated 2013 La Sangre de Jonata is another terrific 2013 from winemaker Matt Dees that checks in near the top of the vintage. Full-bodied, concentrated and with bright acidity, it reveals classic notes of black fruits, pepper, violets, spring flowers and tons of minerality. It will be better in another 2-3 years and keep for decade or more after that.

Rising Tides Paso Robles Syrah Blend

Bought a case of this from Matt (winemaker) in 2008 when their tasting room was more of a shack. This is the last of the vintage and it’s just so good. A lot going on in this bottle still. Complex and earthy. Glad we waited! — 2 years ago

9.1

Expressive nose of lime, Fuji apple, subtle grapefruit and banana, and hint of white pepper and roasted nuts. Quite luscious on the palate yet chiseled, with great fruit intensity.

My first Kiwi chard, and it’s a good one.
