La Brocarde Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2020

Lyle Fass
9.6

Fantastic nose. Cassis, liquer, blackberry, blueberry, dark black cherries, florals and mega spice. Stunning but holding back. Lots of granite and an airiness about it. Super penetrative nose that has tremendous complexity and ethereal layering. Palate is a stunner. Big and rich but so elegant and sapid. Blackberry and blueberry fruit that is ultra concentrated and so refined. This is so refined. Gorgeous purity and depth even though it’s holding back. Incredible fruit and the oak is in check. Will track this but easy 9.5 for now. With air this became outstanding. Velvety and so elegant. 9.5 to 9.6. — 23 days ago

Love this producer and it's not because of the questionable-at best-labels.

@Scott@Mister A’s-San Diego trust me this is an improvement over the old Brocarde label!

La Bâtie Terres de Viennae Red Rhone Blend 2017

Really a beautiful and captivating Syrah apparently from right across from Cote-Rotie. Decanted 5+ hours and I recommend that at this stage. So much dark fruit - cherry, some plum - just delicious. Wonderful mouthfeel and a nice long finish with excellent acid. Has a certain seamlessness to it that makes it easy to keep drinking. Great with skirt steaks on the grill. — 3 years ago

Vielles Vignes Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2005

Good example of a Cote- Rotie a bit to the international style with a good bit of newer oak. The wine is unfiltered, which gives a good sense of earth to the wine. Well made, good earth, bramble and some mushroom on the palate. Served with roasted chicken, polenta and sautéed spinach. — 6 years ago

The debut vintage and a stunning debut. Bob Feller like. Incredible spice. Next level. Some wood but buttressed by amazing florals. Violets and roses galore. Wow. Granite and olive. 9.8 nose. Just blown away. Palate is so concentrated yet so silky. Sweet, rich and fresh with exquisite tannins. Dark berry fruit of the tiny kind. High high quality fruit here and absolutely a barn burner of a finish. This is very very good wine. — a year ago

Day 2 notes. Gorgeous nose. Flowers, meat, gravy, mineral, and so so elegant. Smells like velvet. Yes velvet. Soil tones. So aromatic. Dizzying. Palate is ripe and rich but so elegant and complex. Really floats. Velvety melty tannins and brilliant acidity. Very pure. Amazing texture and so young but really something. — 5 years ago

Les Elotins Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2016

Nose has huge blackberry and granite. Some leather and a hint of brett that gets well integrated with air. Dark flowers and some huge herbals and well. Very complex but still primary. Palate is very 16, juicy, loose, elegant and crunchy with terrific granitic intensity on the finish. Really balanced and pure. Classic. — 7 months ago

La Brocarde Vielles Vignes Côte-Rôtie Syrah

My third and final bottle. Served in Syrah glasses. Nose has mellowed the new oak after 15 years, but still present. Drank over the course of three hours, and finished with an alpine tartiflette. Nice medium body, good fruit and some bacon drippings on the palate. Very little sediment for an unfiltered wine. — 4 years ago

Les Corendies Collines Rhodaniennes Syrah 2014

Another wine from Fass that I swore was Sonoma coast in a blind. Need a trip to the Rhone, what a beautifully structured Syrah. — 7 years ago
