Flor de San Martin

Navarra Garnacha Blanca 2018

Another sleeper white hit from #wsjwineclub. True to the label art, this #garnachablanca is perfumed with jasmine and gardenia. Green apple and citrus acidity present on the palate with a delightful almost spicy zing on the finish - this one disappears fast out of the glass. I’d like to try it with some slightly spicy food next time. — 16 days ago

Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

It’s time for my Friday's Cabernet fix. Here is a nice one from Sonoma County, California.

Dark ruby in color with a short reddish rim.

Fruity nose with black currants, cherries, plums, oak, vanilla, licorice, cloves, herbs, spices, dark chocolates, coffee, peppercorn, earth and light vegetables.

Full-bodied and smooth with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, oak, vanilla, spices, chocolates, tobacco, peppercorn, earth, green tea, vegetables and graphite.

Medium-plus on the finish with fine-grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 7-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon from a Double Magnum is a nice surprise. Very tasty and easy to drink.

Well balanced with nice complexity. Spicy with a nice mouthfeel.

Needs a full hour to open up properly. I used 4 decanters.

After 2 hours of airtime, it drinks like a Left Bank Bordeaux. Interesting stuff.

Could continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 10 years.

I paired it with cheeses and light appetizers.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged in French and American oak barrels for 12 months.

14.2% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

$120 (double Magnum).

Martin Estate

Puerta Dorada Vineyard Cabernet Port

Shay A

A few days late in posting the Wednesday Wine Committee wines. Standard format with 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds and 1 dessert wine. All served blind.

@Delectable Wine : This is the Martin Estate Puerta Dorada Vineyard Cabernet Port. I didn’t see it in the database.

Fig, nutmeg, clove and rich mixed berry pie. Lots of similarities to port, but the finish never goes to the traditional graham cracker richness, and not as lengthy of a lingering finish. Lighter than expected, and definitely not super sweet. More similar to a heavily extracted cab with age. I guessed Napa Cab dessert wine.

Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Dark ruby hue with medium-high saturation. Aromas and flavors of blackberry, caramel, leather, toffee, and vanilla. Medium-high acidity and medium tannins. Mellow--but altogether juicy--finish for a Napa cab. — a month ago
