Marine Willamette Valley Chardonnay 2020

As always really nice. No formal notes. He stopped making the Marine 😞. It was always one of my favorites. — a month ago

@Pinotman /// Andreas sorry to hear it’s not being made anymore. Was always at the top of my list when people asked for a nice house white .

CroiZADe Vignereuse Duras Syrah 2019

Deep ruby color; dried herbs, plums and black cherries on the nose; high acidity; medium plus tannins; tastes like sour cherries, raspberries, and wet slate with a long finish. It's a little bitter at the end, but a very interesting wine. Not bad. I think it will pair well with the Ruben I ordered. — a year ago

Château Latour

Premier Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2003

Medium deep ruby core , medium wide ruby garnet rim . Quite slow and fat tears. Quite exotic nose , slightly high toned, lots of ripe spicy blackcurrant , dark cherry , blackberry and underneath a grafite and earthy note , marine scents also . On the palate round, ripe and sweet dark fruits, blackcurrant , blackberry and dark cherry , touches of grafite and cigar box. Surprisingly good , even refreshing acidity , ripe ample tannins; there is great intensity here. Balanced alcohol even though it is quite decadent and rich, lots of glycerin . Very long and succulent but balanced finish with touches of mineral and tobacco. The plumpness and exoticism does come across as pretty atypical for Latour , though it is a real success for the vintage and an undeniably enjoyable wine. Drinking ok now , with a decant of an hour or two but really did improve over the 5 hours we had it open. Will obviously last and improve over the next 20 years and I’m sure go further still . — 2 years ago

Marine Layer

Lyra Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2022

Don’t think I’ve had this producer before. Overall nice, better than I expected. Definitely get the Sonoma quality, in that you wouldn’t mistake this for burgundy due to the higher cola / fruit feel and less earth and mineral refinement. But it’s still a well made wine with some good persistence and clocks in at a reasonable 13.3%. — 2 months ago

Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2014

Delectable Wine
9.2

The 2014 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru certainly has one of the more attractive bouquets with redcurrant and cranberry, a touch of tobacco and marine aromas (cockle sheds I used to play on in the Thames Estuary). The palate is well balanced, with a touch of curry leaf on the entry and more black than red fruit. The 2014 has a firm grip with a noticeable backbone, yet the finish has plenty of freshness. Drinking well now, but there are a few years left to enjoy. (Neal Martin, Vinous, June 2024)

Château Pontet-Canet

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1995

Slightly deeper ruby garnet , narrower rim . Deeper and younger , touch of wood smoke then quite ripe black fruits , rounder with better definition on the nose than the 1994 . More degraded cassis and grafite noticeable than the wine before, tobacco , touch of seashell , marine influence comes though . On the palate the fruit fills out better than the 1994, quite dark and serious , grafite , tobacco and cedar , however the tannin is less rustic and better integrated . Nice balancing acidity. This has quite good length and is showing well now though could age a little longer. Probably is best drunk over the next few years — 2 years ago
